You should contact the police, start calling the credit bureaus, contact the debt collectors calling (they won't beleive you), then get some sort of service like lifelock. Be patient it will take a while to clear up this mess.

Wait to you get something in the mail, then ask them to verify the debt. DO NOT talk to anyone on the phone or give out any personal information.

A call from a debt collector is NOT evidence of identity theft. They call the wrong person all the time. Your wife should check her credit reports.
