1) I would not have mentioned her weight issues if she hadn't brought it up.
2) Even if she had been someone thin, I would have still had the same issues with someone that I'm paying for their services, not being able to operate the equipment.
3) I feel society has gone too far in accepting poor performance as the norm.
4) If a plumber, a handyman, or a mechanic does a poor job, do you let them skip by? How is this any different?

As far as working out at a gym, I have no choice since I sit behind a desk for 9 to 10 hours a day.

I agree with you. You are paying for a service and a personal trainer should be able to demonstrate the proper use of a machine. Or else why pay for a trainer and you still have to figure out the machine on your own.

That being said, she was the one that brought up her weight, not you. However I feel like you escalated it by mentioning her "BIG weight issue". That was unnecessary and I'm probably as much of a curmudgeon as you seem to be and have as little patience for stupidity and poor performance as you say you have. Fat chicks are known for being sensitive about their weight so if there was a place for your improvement, you could have said everything else verbatim as you posted it and have been 100% in the right but just have omitted those 3 words and have been beyond any reproach.

Going forward, you are stuck at that gym for the next year until your membership expires. Good luck as your name will be known and by all the employees. I wouldnt expect any extraordinary customer service or perks thrown your way as everyone will know Krissy's account of the story with perhaps with whatever exaggerations she create.

If the links SCORPIO provided show the woman you were dealing with, she wasn't a trainer, she's management. Walk away from this place and find another gym.

You essentially contracted with Kyle. Kyle broke the appointment. The management staff decided to attempt to retain the income by substituting Kyle with Crissy who was giving you a sales tour of the gym. You weren't going to get any training for that session but they would have happily taken your money. I wouldn't reschedule with Kyle because he most likely is not a trainer either. If that's Kyle pictured at the link, look at his title. Nothing mentioned about being licensed as a trainer.

You're dealing with an outfit that IMO you should not continue doing business with. I used to own an Anytime Fitness so I know a bit about how the industry runs. These people are basically dishonest.

You were rude, and that's okay. If people were a little rude to each other more often, they wouldn't run off crying when faced with it for the first time in years.

Also, fuck that noise, if you can't operate the equipment or at least explain to me very well how it's intended to be used, you aren't a trainer, you're a ball jockey.

I'd be pretty annoyed too, but I would have just ended the session and walked up to the counter and told them the problem in private. Saying something about her weight, even if she said it first, is sort of taking the low road... but hiring a personal trainer who can't even use the machines is dangerous to anyone new to fitness.

This too, if they are marketing themselves as having trainers on-staff (and offering training services) but don't, that's false advertising. They could get someone severely injured if they don't actually know what they're talking about/doing.

Yeah that does sound a little fishy. 300 lbs at 5'2" is literally a sphere. If she was really that overweight she probably couldn't have even gotten on and off the machines.

Im sure it was an approximation and OP didnt fact check her weight with a scale before posting

It does not matter what you would have done, if your wife was around, it would be wrong too.

On more serious note though, I guess it was kinda rude, not wrong, but rude. I would be annoyed too in your situation. But sometimes it's best to just bite the bullet and go with it anyway.

This is the problem with the whole "0 discrimination" society though. That woman should not be a fitness trainer, but if she was the only applicant or the other ones were worse, they had no choice but to hire her.

As a side note I can't even imagine being 300 lbs at that height, that's got to be uncomfortable. I'm 5'6" and when I hit 160 I feel bloated. I've only hit that high a few times. I eat too much poutine.

Last week I was talking with a trainer named Nick, a guy in his mid 30's, and looked to be in very good shape (my wife said she wouldn't mind him as her trainer), so I set up an appointment with him for yesterday for my first paid session ($35).

My wife and I go to the gym yesterday, and I show up at the front desk for my training session on time, and check in for my appointment. I don't know the reason why, but Kyle was unavailable. I asked to reschedule for next week, but the guy at the front desk said "I can find you another trainer, hold on a minute."

Are you sure the error wasn't on your end?

I would have been ruder than you. They were wrong and everything that happened followed from sticking you with a person they know is unqualified.

Exactly right. I don't know about Texas, but during the timeframe I owned mine in Michigan I could hire anybody I wanted and call them a trainer. Hiring someone not qualified/certified is about as bad a business decision as one could make. I had no trainers that were not properly certified, with the paperwork to prove it and they had to annually provide me proof that they had the proper insurance.

Sounds like the OP was simply correcting her mischaracterization ... when he referred to her "BIG weight problem."
She termed herself "a little overweight." Which was apparently wrong.

Op, was it rude? Perhaps, but that doesn’t make you wrong...SOMETIMES, “rude” is the only way to make your point.

They ain't got no doughnuts in the US, that there's DONUT country.

If this episode leads to more confrontation in the gym, suggest maybe you and the gym need to part ways *refund* because of ethical differences.

I asked to reschedule for next week, but the guy at the front desk said "I can find you another trainer, hold on a minute." He got on the phone and then told me that "Chrissie will be with you shortly." After about 5 minutes Chrissie shows up. She is in her late 20's, about 5' 2" tall, must weigh at least 300 pounds, and there isn't an ounce of muscle on this woman. I control the expressions on my face

You should have been like

I agree with all your sentiments and I'd have felt the same.

I think you could've been bit more diplomatic about it verbally. One can age gracefully too.

Some guy who let himself go joins a gym.
Intent is to work on gut, weak ass back and "upper body".
Bases personal trainer decision on who the wife wants to bang.

Dude apparently will pay anyone to hold his hand around the gym so allows desk jockey to select anyone in the list of "Who is working today".

Gym staff member begins to show the guy around the gym.
Out of shape guy who doesn't know how to use gym equipment judges some staff member based on appearance and the amount of weight she can lift.

Out of shape guy acts like an ass and verbally lashes out at gym staff member.

Comes on internet forum to ask if he was rude.

You probably got everything right except the last sentence. I never asked if I was rude, I asked what you would have done.
