Exactly right. I don't know about Texas, but during the timeframe I owned mine in Michigan I could hire anybody I wanted and call them a trainer. Hiring someone not qualified/certified is about as bad a business decision as one could make. I had no trainers that were not properly certified, with the paperwork to prove it and they had to annually provide me proof that they had the proper insurance.

As many people here have illustrated (Including a former gym owner) - NO you retard, it's not that simple. If you are paid to train someone you should be CERTIFIED in it - and you should know a thing or two about how the body works.
When the person training you can't even understand the concept of calories in > calories out = weight gain, you're probably not well suited for telling someone how to target muscles - let alone how to properly do a lift with proper form, etc...
