Hi, I'm really having a big problem. When I start-up my computer everything looks normal (the windows xp logo shows and all), but when Windows XP starts I can hear everything as it is loading and I can tell that everything is going right, it's just that my screen turns black! I can't see anything and can't figure-out what on earth is going on. It won't let me get to the point where I can select a user name or start up in any form of safe mode either (including command prompt) I was talking to a friend and we figured out that maybe it is messed up because I installed a bunch of BIOS things from a website when I was trying to get a "driver" so that I could get my wirleless modem and volume control on my keyboard to work (somebody told me I needed bios software?) Any ideas? Thanks anybody for your help!

how are you trying to get into safe mode? if its a driver issue then booting up in safe mode will still USUALLY work.

i dont know of any bios updates you can install by simply downloading programs that you think may be drivers. updating your bios usually requires booting to a boot disk that has the bios flash program on it. i understand there are exceptions to the rule but i doubt they apply here.

if you do think your bios has been changed have you logged in and restored the factory defaults for your motherboard? in fact, could you tell us what kind of motherboard and video card you have installed?

more than likely its a driver or display settings error, you should be able to boot into safe mode to fix this. have you tried hooking the computer up to a different monitor?

if you changed your graphics card recently or installed something else recently, it could be that your system is demanding more power than the psu can provide.
It wuld be helpful if you could post your system specs.

What website were you visiting when you got all those Bios things and Driver?
Pcthug had excellent suggestions. Especially going back into the Bios and select Optimal
or Default Settings.
