i did some cool mods to my xbox recently, and although i am not done, i wanted to post it anyway.

the reset button LEDs are way sweeter looking in person...half is white, half is blue, and when it FRAGs they alternate colors on each side.

nothing else to say really...

Hey is that the xecuter 2.3 lite plus? Are you liking it or does the chip move around too much.

its an x 2.3b lite+

i put it in the first day i got it, and ive been opening and closing the xbox every day since then. it hasnt moved a single time and never messes up. if you install it correctly the first time, it is easier and better than soldered modchips. ive had both, and solderless is way better if it is installed correctly the first time. that is the key.

if you are wanting to get into this, you should message me on AIM under bandtank or e-mail me at bandtank@bandtank.com...i pretty much know all of the little tricks from doing this, and you dont get that from guides.

if you want to buy mod chips, go to modchipman.com and buy both the chip and the chip programmer (it may cost a little more, but if you can afford another 20 dollars, its worth it BIG TIME)

that is part of the hard drive activity circuit. the circuit is finished, but that isnt the most recent picture. if you know stuff about electronics, that is a 555CN, 4017BE, and not shown is a 35N optocoupler.

basically, when the hard drive is activated, the optocoupler lights an IR LED and on the other side of the 35N is the IR detector. when it detects the LED, it closes the circuit and the 4017 starts counting again. it is a pretty neat circuit, and when i get it all in the box, i will post a movie of it in action.

the stuff i have left to do is:

controller power switch
hard drive activity meter
lan link LED

Those pogo board chips == bad idea imo. You move your box around too much, or over time, and it eventually doesn't quite connect anymore . Soldering is a MUCH more stable way of doing it. Also, you can solder on a 10 pin connector and switched mod chips is extremely easy from then on out

What Xbox skin did you use? Who made it? Was it hard to put on? Where did you get it?

I wanted something different but thought those skins were a joke so I painted mine. It looked alright, but the Chrome looks very sharp.

You should write an article or something how to do all that plus the others mods you want to, I'm sure some nice modding site would be glad to post it on their site

save it pal. it is quite obvious by your open ended generalizations that you either have no experience with both types or you are truley just misinformed. speaking from a standpoint of using both kinds of modchips, i think i have a leg to stand on when i say getting a solderless chip is becoming much more of a viable option.

and, i dont care what you say, but even people with a lot of time under their belt with soldering irons will make mistakes. i dont do it for a living, but i do it often enough that i can call myself proficient. i still make mistakes, and sometimes you can heat up a landing too much, or accidentally burn a trace. you are human, and you can make a mistake. if there is an alternative that is fool-proof, why waste the time fooling around with something more difficult? are you trying to prove something? getting modchips that require soldering is perfectly fine, but dont talk trash about the solderless if you actually dont know. "doesnt quite connect anymore" is so generic and lame that it is hard to reply to.

anyway, thanks for the positive comments everyone. i guess subconciously i wanted people to say "wow good job" but i honestly didnt expect that reaction. it was more of an "FYI: here is what you can do" but i wont deny that the praise is more than welcomed and very appreciated.

yeah i thought of painting mine, but i decided to give the skins a crack. i am extremely pleased with this chrome skin. up close, it looks a little weird, and has some bumps under it, but you cant see any of that from a few feet away. it wasnt THAT easy to put on, but definitely not brain surgery. all it takes is some patience. you can remove it a few times and it will still stick correctly, but i wouldnt make a habbit of taking 3-4 tries of getting each piece on correctly. after it is on there and you are happy with the placement, leave it alone for 2 days before you try to clean your finger prints off of it. if you give the adhesive time to bind, it becomes one with the xbox and you can scrub all you want.

i got mine from ebay Text

Why are so many people interested in modding the XBox (compared to other consoles)? Is it becuz the XBox is basically a mini-PC?
