The prices on even 2003 350Zs are ridiculous. It's a 9 year old car, yet I have yet to see one under $10k. The 1999/2000 boundary seems to add a few thousand dollars to the value of used cars.

the Z cars are cheap now. even though they might not be under 10 grand, they are still cheap.

My next car is going to be a Z or Audi TT, I don't want back seats at all. Nice car!

I am a Z owner as well as an evo IX owner. If you want a better driving experience, get an evo. HANDS DOWN a better drivers car. I bought my 04 Z new and just picked up my 06 evo last fall. My Z is slightly faster overall (twin turbo'd -> APS @ 15 psi), but the evo just goes. No worrying about wheel spin, no BS, just point and go (FP red @ 28 psi)

the Z will hold a soft spot in my heart. Always wanted a Z and was basically my first new car purchase. I have wrenched a lot on, and spent a lot of money. it is a sexy car and has a good/great feel to it. It pains me though, that some boy racer, big winged, 4 door car is more fun to drive. It is the way it is, and I have come to grips with it.

to the OP, it seems like you got a decent buy. the HR motor is better than the DE, but not by leaps and bounds. They had their issues, but they do take to bolt-ons better than the DE -> but that ain't saying much. Regardless of the DE or HR, the Z is kind of a dog in stock form. Sure it has power, but the car isn't a featherweight, and the power is pretty linear, especially with the DE. As a result, the car can feel sluggish. Sure, right now with the novelty of a new ride still present, it feels peppy/powerful/fun, but the power 'feel' will begin to fade and the car will feel sluggish...... then the itch will start and you will start with some more bolt-ons, only to be disappointed in the hp gains in the 10-30 hp range. Next thing you know here you are building the motor, putting the best components, only to be bested by some 4 door boy racer with an upgraded turbo and an e85 tune on a stock ecu:

I hear ya, but I don't think we are on the same page.

I bought the car to have a fun RWD toy to take care of and have around for a number of years. It is not my daily, well it is for 6-7 months a year.

I'm in my 30's, have a kid, own a home and could give a shit about some boy racer car being able to take me in his 4 door with a big stupid wing. BTW, I have an 02 wrx aswell and an 02 4motion passat

I had a fairly good idea what I was looking to buy when I got the Z. I just got rid of my boosted GTi vr6( which was a faster car).

I had and built a spec'd out rx7. I rocked a mustang GT for 3 years and used to have a nicely setup Daytona Shelby Z. I did *not* want another turbo car. NA is way easier to live with on a daily basis.

Furthermore, If I choose to actually want to go really fast I'm not gonna get in any of my cars. Yeah thats right, fast cars are still slower than the Hayabusa thats chilling in my shed =)

So as you see, I am and will continue to be quite content with the Z

p.s. the Z a dog? HR Z's are capable of near 5 second flat 0-60, and 13.1-.3 quarters. Again, dog? Sure it's not the lightest car out there but with performance figures like that, i don't think it matters.

Nice cars... really what I am getting at , is that the Z is what it is -> the jack of all trades and the master of none. well rounded car for the most part. Not too powerful, but goes well, handles decent, etc. when I bought mine, I think I expected the world of it, and it just wasn't what the car is all about.

You seem to have realistic expectations and it looks like you have bought a good car (low milage, clean). I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine.

Nice car! I always liked the 350 and 370's. I loved the 222HP engine in my Maxima. I can only imagine a 300HP version in a RWD sports car is that much more fun.

Had an lol moment yesterday.

BTW, this is not a brag post. I just wanted to share my experience cause I felt like an idiot a few minutes later. This wasn't a race to win but just an "oh yeah biatch" spur of the moment thing

A ragged fox body 5.0 stang rolled up on me at a light spinning his engine up as far as it would go. He was trying to say something to me but I couldn't hear him over all the noise he was making in addition to horrid sounds coming from his radio. Apparently he wanted to race cause he smoked his tires on green. I kept my cool and just trotted up to the next light. This time he was still babbling something and I noticed his overweight dishevled girlfriend (i assume) pointing and laughing. It felt like i just had a shot of adrenaline, and with the click of the traction button off I was set to rip. Sure enough, he wanted to run at green because I heard a whole lot of noise when the light turned but it was an immediate dissapointment. Right from the very split second I launched he was toast and gap growing at an intense rate. He ended up doing a "ricer" fly by with a blue hued smoke trail when I slowed at around 65mph. We get to another light and he was much quieter this time (engine and music). I'm pretty sure he was sitting much lower in his seat than his already reclined seating position. Cocky bastard got what he wanted, lol.

I've only sat in one at an auto show, but never drove a 350 or 370z. Seemed like a nice car, but the trunk turned me off instantly.

I think the last two years of the 350z were largely ignored for the fact that people were all hyped up over the new Camaro and new 370z coming out shortly.

These cars run good times, and I wish that Nissan would have sold these engines from the get go in the 350z, if it wasn't for the nicer interior in the 370z I would be all over this 350

I bet he made the LS real mad too.. =)

you never had me... you never had your car

I can't wait to get some headers, true duals, and a cam in the Camaro..so it can really sound mean. Then maybe I'll be able to light up the 275s right. :awe:

I looked at the Zs when looking for a car...but couldn't talk myself into buying an import.

nice car the 2008 is a huge improvement over what they offered in 2005-6.

does my g35 get me a guest pass in the z club?

That's one of the reasons why I went with the 3.5L Altima (VQ35DE)... it actually has some good power behind it. I believe the G35 also uses the VQ35DE.

i believe 2005 and later g35's (350Z too?) with manual transmissions all have the "revup" version - 7000 redline, 300 hp, less torque, other goodness. all automatics continued to use the "non-revup" - 6500 redline, 287 hp, a bit more torque.

If you drove that boosted gti to that same Walmart, you'd have killed that poor old man.

The "rev up" engine was only in the 2005 nismo and all 2006 variations I think and was basically just a higher rpm VQ35DE. The 2007-2008 coupes got the heavily redesigned VQ35HR utilizing 80% new parts featuring twin throttle bodies /intakes and a higher compression ratio. The "HR" engine actually made more torque than the "DE". However you are correct that the "DE" made more torque than the "rev up"

YES! have you ever lowered a car before? i had installed eibach springs on my ride years ago and it was awesome. the handling and suspension were much tighter and the car looked much better dropped (almost 2"). i'd do it on a Z
