That's 'hardcore'. IIRC, elite had tougher instances, with more mini-bosses, which result in better loot. There also might be a limitation on respecs with elite. You can also mix and match those qualifications.

You can't respec at all in Elite, but the drops are worth it. The way I figure it, there are still going to be a bunch of wipes before the game goes live, so I'll try my builds against harder enemies in Elite. Plus, if your build is really bad, it's not that hard to get back up to level 20-30.

no lag at all.
I can actually be leeching NGs at full speed and not have lag issues.
I have been getting Mythos.exe crashes quite a bit lately which is odd as I never experienced them before (except when in 50+ level dungeons)

FYI: The new overworld isn't out yet still. It says they've been running into various problems as they get close and think they can release, but then it's too major to release. I'm sure they know of the bitching that many whiny PC gamers tend to do if it's not perfect.

The whole time I've been amazed at the game they made with such a small team. But it has been getting a bit long waiting for open beta (I don't need it personally, but others are waiting), then that was put back with the new overworld announcement, and now even that is going to be much later than they planned.

At first glance, the new overworld seems more of just an improved camera to a game that is already 3D and has a sort of camera like in Wow, etc, although very primitive right now. But it seems it will be much more than that and should relieve some of the tedious and same gameplay. I thought I would've liked to seen skill and item rebalance/changes, more zone 3 quests, new class, better PvP options, etc before this new overworld (since the overworld seems to have pushed most of those other major things back), but I think the overworld really has a chance to drastically change the game for the better. And it'd be better to make the change now then when the game is about ready to release where it might be unfeasible then.

So, just a random guess, but people waiting for open beta will have to wait at least another month, if not two or three (just a random guess). But it's still worth a shot trying to get in the closed beta. They are gonna wanna stress the servers with the new overworld (which will be instanced still but with MANY more players) and maybe if people have been leaving the game they will want to bring in more.


edit: Holy **** boys! It's out! Well they have another server setup with it on, so for now the old one with all of your characters is still there, or you can start over with the new overworld (only zone 1 so far). I'll be able to check it out in an hour or so!

Some people love it, some people hate it, for me it's sort of a "meh"

While the idea of a continuous landmass is interesting, the gameplay formula remains unchanged, it's still the same old "get quest from npc - kill something - come back for reward"; the only difference is the pace has slowed down a bit because traveling distance is stretched out significantly, while people used to just click n' warp to dungeons straight from towns, now you gotta physically walk to the location, try to get around annoying huge trees and roving hills on the way. There are still monsters around the roads, but they're not in great density like in the old clearings, which creates alot of bland breaks in what used to be a fast & intense action play, sorta starts to remind me of other generic MMORPGs where you spend half of the time running around instead of doing something meaningful, a tired concept that I don't find very exciting.

It appears the devs are still undecided whether they want the game to be a traditional MMORPG with big emphasis on "the world" or D2-esqe hack n' slash fest with endless action, so they're trying to somehow work in a middle ground here that's not met with 100% success, but I still support the decision though, making radical changes like this requires alot of balls, something many game companies don't have nowadays.

Gonna have to wait and see how much polish they are willing to put into this side project before I place my final take on this.



<edit> oh and don't fret too much if they never picked your beta signup, I registered way early 2007 as soon as the project was annouced I still have yet to get an email from them.

I didn't get in, I was looking forward to giving it a try. Since the graphics are the only thing I can really go by, I have to say I'm mixed on it. It looks nice to me in some screenshots, similar a polygonal Diablo, but then in others it looks too similar to WoW, which is not a good thing in my opinion.

I hadn't logged in months but my account is still alive and kicking, they have made some pretty huge improvements since I last logged in, the interface is more polished, performance (especially network performance) seems to be sharper.

The game is good but it's a bit boring at times, it's transforming into a MMO which I hate so might not play it much longer, might give away my account if I can change the login details.

Well... after months and months of time playing this game, I have to say it seems to have hit a wall. I loved it at first then they added ACTII and III then switched to the OW etc etc. They are just spinning their wheels at this point making which seems to be little to no progress on the game. It feels like it couldn't possibly got retail for another year are more at this pace. Incredibly slow in development, and honestly, after 2 level 50s and all the "goofing around" I can do, there is nothing left to do at this point. And they just invited 520 more newbs? How many "testers" can they add at this point?

They seriously need to get the ball rolling on development if they want this thing to ever take off.
Though with the announcements of D3....

Are you playing on the beta server or the test center server? If you are on the beta server, get off of it. Its a dead animal. If you are on the Test Center server, which uses the "new" OverWold, there is no Z2 yet. That's the problem. They took a HUGE step backwards in their progress to switch to the OW.

Even though your character wont carry over if you switch to the Test Server, you should switch. I don't understand why they still have the beta server up when (according to FSS) its a dead duck and that the Over World is the definite choice they are going with. Not to say that when they revamp the Test Sever you wont lose your characters again... but it is a beta.

On that note, I just don't get it anymore. Nobody is "Beta Testing" anymore as evident by the countless horrific questions, comments etc. Very few are supplying feedback and reporting bugs, yet they keep handing out more and more invites. I just don't get WTH FSS is doing with this beta and this game. My hopes are not up.

I agree. I started and it was fun for a while. Then you get through the too few scripted quests and the game just gets stuck in neutral. The "random" quests suck, you never feel like you're accomplishing anything. It's just "go here, kill boss, return" repeated ad infinitum. I got bored and quit. Act II came out and I tried again. Exactly the same thing. I quit again. Act III was still more of the same. Get through the decent scripted quests and it's instant boredom. I was hoping the overworld would change things, but it made them worse. It's still the same futile "why bother" quests as before, but now you have to waste even more time walking to them.

I'd rather play trash like Dungeon Siege or Titan Quest. At least with those games you have a sense of working towards a purpose, not just running around blindly because there's ah heck-all to do.
