Typical deflection. Given the history of this nation, it is appropriate and necessary to recognize both our accomplishments and failures, to include those of our leaders. The story of Obama's rise to the Presidency is an appropriate topic for classes anchored on political discourse or our political process.

Grade school kids singing songs to praise Obama that mirror those used in Catholic schools to praise Jesus borders on cult of the leader indoctrination and brainwashing.

The principal of a New Jersey elementary school where young students were videotaped singing the praises of President Obama is making no apologies for the videotape and says she would allow the performance again if she could, according to parents who spoke with her Thursday night.

Three parents told FOXNews.com that Dr. Denise King, principal of B. Bernice Young Elementary School in Burlington, N.J., defended the controversial performance, which was videotaped and posted on YouTube, when they approached her during a "Back to School" event.

Parent Jim Angelillo said King told him the lesson was merely part of Black History month, and not an attempt to indoctrinate students, as critics have charged. He said he believes teachers have the freedom to express their political views, but not in the classroom.

"Freedom of speech, not freedom to teach," Angelillo told FOXNews.com.

King has long been a fan of Obama, hanging pictures of the president in her school's hallways and touting her trip to his inauguration in the school yearbook.

Included in the full-page yearbook spread were Obama campaign slogans ("Yes we can! Yes we did!") and photos King took in Washington on Jan. 20, when she attended the inauguration.

There also were photos taken at the school depicting students doing Obama-themed activities about their "hopes for the future," featuring posters of Obama. According to the yearbook, students watched the inauguration in class.

Parents said Elvira James, the teacher of the class that was videotaped, also seemed to be promoting Obama.

"She praised him, she put pictures on the walls," said Jim Pronchick, whose 8-year-old son, Jimmy, was in James' class last year. "When he won (the election) they really went off."

Leslie Gibson, who has two children at the school, said she was "shocked" at the videotape, adding that political beliefs, like religious views, should be kept at home. She also said King made a "big deal" about her attendance at the inauguration.

"Throughout the school, there were signs posted supporting Barack Obama quite a bit," Gibson told FOXNews.com. "I understand it's a historical event, but on the same token, I like politics to be left at home and I think she should follow that as well."

Attempts to reach King on Friday were unsuccessful. A recording at the school said its mailbox was full and could not accept new messages.

A search of public records revealed that King, 46, of Cinnaminson, N.J., last voted in 2004 and had not declared any political affiliation. No records of political contributions could be found.

In November, the 9,700-plus residents of Burlington, N.J., a Philadelphia suburb, voted overwhelming for Obama, who received 3,285 votes to Sen. John McCain's 1,308.

The controversy over the YouTube video extended into northwest Arkansas on Friday, as officials at the Bernice Young Elementary School in Springdale said they had been received calls from across the country and Canada from irate parents and other individuals.

Principal Debbie Flora told the Associated Press that the callers claimed the school was teaching political opinion and that some "did not use very kind language."

The singing part is bad...young kids like that shouldn't be singing to Obama like he is Jesus or something. That is definitely something to get upset about.

This "Update" by Foxnews is bad. They are trying to run an inflammatory article with no proof.

Where does the school Principal say she is unapologetic?

anyway....this school system sucks and they deserve the negative press....

black history month. I remember it was mentioned in school but we didn't go on about it. I really hope my kids do little more than hear about it (I doubt they can get away with less than that). What a silly me-too load of nanny crap.

Except in this case they're taking learning about his accomplishments as a prominent black leader (which is perfectly appropriate) past just that, and turning it into a worship hour. Just look at the song--it's praising his supposed political accomplishments (or ideals).

meh. I think the good old days was more celebrating the position of president than the man himself and treating him with the respect a president deserves. Obviously years of tards have taken its toll on the respect for office. Obama's address to schools was a pretty simple method that should have been treated with respect. This school, on the other hand, is going over the top and celebrating his platforms and political ideologies in a completely inappropriate manner.

Let's not forget that this on the NJ side of Philly and the school was probably majority black, so you probably didn't want them in your party anyway. You've already got your one token black guy quota covered.

When they start doing it in the West Chester, Lansdale, Hatboro, Norristown, Upper Moreland areas to the North and West of Philly... that's when you really gotta worry cause that is where all the white kids driving Bmwer's and wearing cowboy hats go.

This seems to be one rogue teacher, acting on his own initiative. Cause for concern? Yes. Enough to make the national news? I don't really think so. It's clearly inappropriate what the teacher did, and the teacher should be reprimanded. What would be newsworthy would be if the school board voted for a "pro-obama indoctrination" curriculum. It would show that the school actually want to indoctinate children.

The video was shot at an elementary school in Burlington, NJ earlier this year. Feb. 09. Why all the frothing outrage NOW, hmmm... Flag pledges, fuss about pins, praying to cardboard cutouts, songs about your current president, United Statesians have always worn their hearts on their sleeves when it comes to expressing love of country. a teacher dedicating a song to Stephen Harper (for, say, Evangelical History Month) but I'm not surprised to hear this. This is not indoctrination, this is par for the course. Singing a song for George Bush would also be par for the course, although I'd be puzzled and confused as to why anyone would want to craft such an ode.

Having watched the video, I think if they want to do any indoctrinating, they might start with concepts like timing and harmony.

Heh, this happened in my hometown. Hope it doesn't turn into a racial issue though.

I would be upset if my kid took part in any activity like this, but this has huge potential to be a race issue.

Nothing less than firing of the principal and the teacher is acceptable: people who are stupid enough to think that such a thing is appropriate have no role in directing children or teaching them anything.

Not a chance. See, unlike you, I'm not a partisan. In fact I hate both parties equally. If I saw this kind of behavior for ANY leader I'd be highly disturbed by it.

But thanks for the projection. It was fun.

So, you make a statement: "And you KNOW you'd be having a fit right now were this a republican. Don't even try to lie" to someone who has condemed this teacher and this incident completly, and this is not "projection". suuuure it isn't. And No Im not partison your partison....neener, neener, neener!, see how fun this is!. You should host that new FOX show "Hypocrite Hunters"

But that's not how any of these threads around here ever work, now is it. Each and every time one of these "Look what the Libruls did" threads come around, it's an attempt at a preemptive gotcha, foam flying everywhere and the increasingly inevitable "YOU ALL WOULD BE SO PISSED IF BUSH HAD DONE THIS!!!"

Because that's really the whole point. You're massively upset about the sand in your hemorrhoid cream and want everyone to be just as pissed as you are by concocting ways in which the situation would upset them too, if only the situation were completely Different. If you can't make a case for your own outrage without trying to paint some other entity as a hypocrite as justification for your own recreational outrage. Just stop trying already.

Whatever the minute speck of an issue is, like some isolated idiot teacher 8 fucking months ago having her kids sing a song about Obama, may at its face be "not that big of a deal." So most of us agree that yeah, it's a stupid thing to do. But we're not writing letters to the superintendent over an issue from 8 months ago because it's "not that big of a deal." But you seem to think that you're going to point out major inconsistencies when nobody but your own kind gets as frothy as you do about it. And this is of course the point of this exercise. That's why we have threads which essentially start off saying "Why is there not a thread about this from the Democrats, huh? If you're so outraged at this stuff why aren't you posting it from the other side, huh? Prove that you're not hypocrites!!"

Then you can pat each other on the back and say "Give it up man, they're so far gone they don't even realize the depths of their own naivete." Any attempts to discuss the issue rationally in terms of said incident being "not that big of a fucking deal" or at the very least "one stupid idiot that has already been dealt with months ago for the issue" is blown off as more partisan blindness.

So we have to go through this about every week. Somebody drudges up a 2 paragraph article from January of 2009 and presents it like it happened yesterday, so we can keep the cycle of continued outrage going, keep fanning the flames and talking about how the "honeymoon is over" and "people are starting to realize..(insert talking point of the day) and "the numbers clearly show....well, they clearly show if you tilt them sideways and hold under an ultraviolet light while singing psalms backwards that nobody really likes Obama anymore anyway.

These bizarro-world condemnations are hilarious: "The person who looks like you but lives in another dimension and has a goatee failed to condemn this when it happened with goatee-Bush, so therefore you're a hypocrite!" I'll let you in on a secret: Nobody gives a shit about such hypotheticals. Except the hypocrite hunters.

This: "There seems to be a growing cult of personality around Obama himself" meme is utter shit. Another half assed justification used to continue garbage politics. "Obama is popular and we're scared." This despite the fact that he is the first black president (thusly relatively historic) and the fact that his approval ratings are going down. Some cult of personality. You want to say that it's about issues? Make it about issues. Making an issue over the myth that there is some widespread cultlike fanaticism about Obama makes you people look scared, which really is where you can stuff this "cult of personality" nonsense. If people liking the president makes you people nervous, maybe it's time you just grew a pair.

This was one teacher. One single solitary teacher acting entirely by herself and not on the governments orders. And if you were so annoyed by the teacher, why "look forward to the mental gymnastics required to justify or minimize it?" Why say that everyone "wouldn't be so casually flippant if the song were about GWB?" Why even compare it? For all your mental gymnastics and justification, you're just part of the ever worsening partisan sniping. You made a point to stick this to liberals in particular. You can try to hold yourself above it as hard as you want, but you are part of the fucking problem. Just because you didn't attempt to use it as a call to arms doesn't make it any better. You want to be considered an educated american with policy differences? Act like it. You want to be lumped in with the rabid masses? Keep posting threads like this and doing what you're doing.

Seriously. You've got three years and change left. If you're going to freak out over what one stupid teacher did months ago and try to inflate it into some grand socialist conspiracy to brainwash our children, you're gonna be all tuckered out before years end. Pace yourselves. (You could maybe try since you have sooooooo many policy differences with Obama) making a big stink over the actual policy decisions like sane people would instead of blowing every tiny little fart into a tin foil hat worthy of a hurricane of conspiracy nonsense.

How fucking hard would that be? Must be impossible, because we get:

"OBAMADEATHPANELGRANNYKILLINGYOULIESOCIALISTBROWNSHIRTMARXISTDESTROYINGAMERICAINDOCRINATEKIDSTHROUGH THEPOWEROFHISVOICEOMG!!" instead of reasonable discussions on policy.

Yeah. The teacher is an idiot. Hope she gets, er I mean got (that's right, months ago.) reprimanded for this nonsense. Furthering this utterly retarded political circus horseshit that has fuck all to do with Obama, the administration, or his policy. You people are educated americans with policy differences? Stick to those. Right now you, and every other person trying to make political hay out of this, look like a petty, ignorant, desperate, shit flinging child who is too damned scared to actually debate policy like a grown up.

While what this teacher did was clearly inappropriate, I think the school receiving death threats over it, demonstrates my point that Obama's wingnut objectors are so over-the-top with their mouth-foaming anger and vitriol that there's absolutely no hope for them. Just like Sarah Palin's hate-a-thon's helped bring down the Republican ticket in '08, this same exact level of fuckery will bring them down in 2010 and so on.

Good luck, you're gonna need it!

This was a principal, not just a teacher

She's not been fired. In fact, she has been unapologetic and says she'd do it again.

The author behind it is STILL touring schools with her propaganda book.

Thanks for the wall of text.
