A naked man took a pot shot at a SWAT bot.
Authorities in Brevard County, Fla., say a nude man opened fire on a $65,000 police robot with an AK-47 last week.
Police dispatched the robot after receiving reports that a man who owned several guns had threatened his own life and the lives of others, according to MSNBC
Rather than risk putting officers in the line of fire, authorities used a remote-controlled robot equipped with a camera to enter the man's home in West Melbourne.
Stunning footage shows the robot scanning the man's house, peering into rooms and even passing a pet dog before the nude man leaps into the frame and jostles the bot with his hands.
Moments later, the naked man emerges carrying an assault rifle, which he used to fire five shots into the high-tech crime-fighting tool.
The suspect, whose name has not been released pending mental evaluation, eventually gave up without a struggle, WFTV reported. He has been charged with criminal mischief.
Even though the costly robot was damaged during the incident, Lt. Bruce Barnett of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office told MSNBC that his department did the right thing.
"He said he'd shoot anyone he could," said Barnett.
"The robot is kind of expensive for us, but it certainly potentially saved a life."
