Name a movie reboot that is actually good

I"m scratching my head here. Was the Papillon reboot any good?

Nolan's Batman trilogy is destroys any of the campy crap prior. (Batman 1989 is great though)
Daniel Craig's is one of the best Bond.
Clooney's Oceans's Eleven (all sequels suck)
Pacino's Scarface
The Departed is a great remake vs Infernal Affairs (all Asian cast hong kong film). And I saw the original first and loved it.

Craig's Bond movies weren't really a reboot. They're part of a series that just goes on and on and on and on.

What they really need to do is introduce a female 00 agent and have her share a movie with Craig, and then boot up her own movies. That would be more of a true "reboot".

Female 007 was never going to work. That idea was idiotic.

John Carpenter's The Thing remains the best example of a good remake.

Edit: I thought Papillon was okay. A Star is Born is getting a lot of accolades and for good reasons. Top notch acting all around including Lady Gaga. Would be surprise if no Oscar nominations were given.

mostly, yes. But it was also based on an actual Bond story, which wasn't a comedy, so it's material that has been around a while, in whatever interpretation.

The Magnificent Seven was an OK bigtime superstars remake of Seven Samurai.

Scarface (1983) is a remake of Howard Hawks (1932) and is highly regarded.

I guess Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong was pretty good. I watched it twice in two days.

And yeah, I like The Departed more than Infernal Affairs.

That's what I thought. It was also one of the only 3D movies I saw in theaters where I actually enjoyed the 3D and felt it was worth it. Great action flick

The 1993 TV Movie "Lifepod" which was basically a remake of Lifeboat (1944.)

It wasn't a great film, but it was a good movie, and it had a lot of "hey it's that guy/gal... but younger!" in it.
