I have been looking to watch some bizarre, thought provoking movies these days, the kind that makes you think. Maybe watch it again to see if you can get more meaning. You try to get others to watch, but they can't sit through it and it frustrates you.

As for me, I will start the thread with the movie Brazil. It's EXTREMELY important to watch the directors version of this movie, or the meaning is completely lost IMO. I have watched it probably a dozen times throughout my life. It comes across as a British comedy on the surface, but the undertones and meanings are dark and frightening. A true work of genious, right down to the camera angles. You will need about 3 hours to watch it, and you will need to be away from any distractions...it's the little things in this movie that will surprise. The scariest thing about it...it was made in the 80s, and it rings much truer today (kind of like 1984). Yikes!

Brazil is freaking awesome! I'm a huge Gilliam fan though. I even loved Parnassus, but for some reason nobody seems to have watched it. :hmm:

Brazil is on my zip list.

Aharami: I liked the fountain quite a lot too. But I also understand why others wouldn't like it.

My pick for this thread is Magnolia.

Awesome, so good to know someone else appreciates that movie. It may be my favorite of all time, but hard to say (there is The Wall and a few others that contend). But it seems impossible to get anyone to watch it all the way through.

I've never heard of Parnassus...if it is anywhere near the caliber of Brazil I must see it. Can you give me any idea without any spoilers?

Hell, I don't know why anyone wouldn't like Brazil....

I would also endorse public floggings for those that don't like Magnolia.

check out the Adventures of Baron Munchausen for an oft-neglected Gilliam film. More fun than brilliant, but still enjoyable. ...well, It's probably been 20 years since I've seen it...is it that old?

Magnolia is awesome, I just picked up the Blu-ray a week or two ago. P.T. Anderson can do no wrong as far as I'm concerned. ()

It's not as good as Brazil, but I really loved the style of it. It's kind of hard to describe, but it's about a travelling theatre group that has some interesting/crazy things behind the curtain and in their past. I don't know, I thought I was really cool and it was my girlfriend's favourite movie from last year.

13th Warrior was great, me and my friends love it, but critics hated it

Waterworld is another one

really like The Fifth Element

I thought that was a pretty decent film...my only complaint is that I didn't like the animated looking characters. Would have preferred it to be more serious. Great concept though, IMHO.

5th Element sort of reminds me of 12 Monkeys...maybe just because of Bruce Willis.

Magnolia, but I can somewhat understand why. It's about 3 hours long, it feels like it goes all over the place until you watch it a second time and start to understand what's going on. The first watch had me wanting more though, and I've watched it over 10 times.

Alright...I will order it up. It sounds interesting at the very least.
