Eastern Promises is awesome. A History of Violence is good, Crash is ok. Videodrome is freaking awesome, though I have not seen it in a while, so not sure how it stands up. I loved Scanners when I was a kid, but again, have not seen it in a while.

Also...The Fly! Could be my favourite Cronenberg movie ever! :awe:

KT

Sweet - will check for Videodrome and The Fly at Rogers.

Episode I

*runs*

LOL

A great one for this thread for sure. I personally hated it because I thought the effects sucked shit compared to the older movies when they used miniature models. That blew my mind when I was a kid.

The Postman. I may be the only person to ever say that I liked that movie, but dammit I thought it was good.

Last year I was hanging with some guys who all seemed to hate the movie Equilibrium, which I think is a freaking fantastic film.

I was kidding for the most part, although I did really enjoy the podracing scenes. Overall the movie is awful, and if I had to pick a single reason I'd say lack of character development.

A movie I really love that I seem to get extremely mixed opinions on is Waterworld. Some people love it and some (most) I've talked to seem to think it's awful, but I loved it. On the other hand, I never really got into The Postman.

Eastern Promises is supposed to be fairly good but I've never seen it myself. It is supposed to be his most "normal" film to date. I saw most of crash on late night TV when I was a teen (showcase provided good faping material for teens :biggrin, it's not a good film but there is some killer erotic imagery in there.

Eastern Promises is quite good, I thought. Great dramatic arch, awesome characters....extremely visceral, too. Viggo Mortenson is very impressive.

and yeah, nothing like his other work.

Hmmm....

Well to be honest I don't really know, I haven't seen that version before. I would certainly hope so based on what is said.

I so don't want to elaborate so that people can judge for themselves...

I think there are 3 or 4 versions? maybe more? kinda like Bladerunner....

The Fountain. But I understand why other don't like it as much.

it was just so damned incoherent. i mean, i understand the gist of what aranofsky was going for, but even he admitted that it was all open to interpretation.

if i'm going to watch movies that confuse me, i'd rather watch something like memento, where there is at least a concrete story to figure out, vague as it may be.

give it another watch. I kinda got it on my first time viewing it. I just watched it again last weekend, and it made certain things a lot more clear. Yea a lot is left up to interpretation, but that's the beauty of the movie - that when you finally get it, even if it is the wrong interpretation, you've found the meaning that makes sense to you.

Im not going to put out spoilers here in the open, but if you want my thoughts on it, PM me

Just a fun little factoid...

Ray Cooper makes a cameo appearance in Brazil.

He has been very involved in the music scene for years, playing percussion with such greats as Elton John, George Harrison, and many others. He is sort of an underground figure to the public, but very well known in the industry.

He is perfect for his role!

Land of the Lost - I know several people who were just not able to watch this movie, and to me it's hilariously stupid but in a good way.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai: Across the 8th Dimension - Very quirky 80s scifi cult classic. However, it's very very 80s.

I have been looking to watch some bizarre, thought provoking movies these days, the kind that makes you think. Maybe watch it again to see if you can get more meaning. You try to get others to watch, but they can't sit through it and it frustrates you.

As for me, I will start the thread with the movie Brazil. It's EXTREMELY important to watch the directors version of this movie, or the meaning is completely lost IMO. I have watched it probably a dozen times throughout my life. It comes across as a British comedy on the surface, but the undertones and meanings are dark and frightening. A true work of genious, right down to the camera angles. You will need about 3 hours to watch it, and you will need to be away from any distractions...it's the little things in this movie that will surprise. The scariest thing about it...it was made in the 80s, and it rings much truer today (kind of like 1984). Yikes!

To which of the THREE "Director's Cuts", are you referring? There are five total versions of this film.

Practically no one likes or understands: Eraserhead, Lost Highway, Harold and Maude, or Parents, but I think they're Tony the Tiger.

Memento was one of those movies that I was like, "Wow!" after watching it the first time, but then I sat and thought about it for a bit. It so full of holes you could drive Miss Daisey through it.

Hoak stole the beans!
