It is indeed a fantastic movie! But you have to like good movies and specifically artfully directed movies. Not everyone appreciates art in films.

Hmmm .... All of the movies I love are disliked by some or few. Many of them are disliked simply because they are subtitled or black and white, and ignorant or stupid people don't like to read subtitles or don't like to watcth something because it's "old."

I'll go with Ikiru, because while 90% who have seen it would give extremely positive reviews, 10% get pissed off that there's no Samurai so they hate it.

Aye, some people are retarded. I guess my post isn't really so much of a contribution to this post so much as a complaint about people who like to "casually" watch film... I've only seen Ikiru once (first saw a Kurosawa film last year, have been working my way through his discography pretty quickly though. Some of his films were less than legendary, but, he's created so many extrely exceptional masterpieces that I have pretty much decided he's my favorite director of all time..... of course I still have thousands of films I need to see from the silent era, to the postwar era before I really can decide.... I have read some of the user comments about Ikiru, though, on IMDB, and even one or two "professional" reviews, that were strongly negative, because "where are the Ninjas", etc ....

Anyhow ... Got about 10 to go in my AK100 box set ... Though I'm also watching netflix movies too ..... about to Start on Bergman .....

I sometimes wonder how I never really came to discover these truly great films until the grey old age of 30..... And then I wonder, if I had tried to watch them at a younger age, if I would have been the guy saying "hey, where's the ninjas?".... sigh

I watched All the Leprechaun movies. Some of them were actually funny though. Nothing like a small leprechaun that rhymes when he is about to kill. Some of it is hilarious. Sort of a twisted appreciation is needed but there are a good number of funny points in the series. And Warwick Davis is the star!

The Postman. I may be the only person to ever say that I liked that movie, but dammit I thought it was good.

Last year I was hanging with some guys who all seemed to hate the movie Equilibrium, which I think is a freaking fantastic film.

Assuming you meant "City of Lost Children", I LOVE that film. Jean Pierre Jeunet really shows off his overflowing creativity, and Ron Perlman does a wonderfull job!

Ichi the Killer

Hell fvcking yes! Can't decide between Ichi or Gozu as to which is my favorite Takashi Miike film, but in any case, Ichi the Killer is such an awesome film!
