Name a movie that you love but others don't...and you can't understand why

This one might not quite fit my own thread subject, as I'm not really sure how critics and the general public viewed it (was it well recieved in its day?). Doesn't seem very popular though...

Pink Floyd's The Wall

A horribly depressing film, but it grabbed me emotionally and brought tears to my eyes on numurous ocassions, so they definately did something right in its production.

One of my favourite films ever! Gilliam was on the Creative Screenwriting podcast a little while ago and had some great stories from that shoot. Worth a listen if you are a Gilliam fan.

I know soo many people who couldn't get past the drugs, couldn't get past the toilet scene, couldn't get past the dead baby scene, and thus never figured out the beautiful story of redemption underneath.

PS: Do not read the sequel entitled "Porno."

I didn't care about the drugs or the toilet, or even the dead baby. I just didn't think it was that great of a movie. It was okay though.

Then again, Anthony Burgess hates the fuck out of Kubrick's vision of his work, and it's the best damn thing ever filmed.

Agreed. I hated that movie too. Complete waste of time and no meaning whatsoever, at least to me. So if someone likes it, here's the thread to explain why!

Ah come on guys...what is good about this movie? What meanings did you find, if any? I like to think of myself as pretty open minded, but to me this was just a really a sort of gore movie on the same level as Scream, with better acters. About the only thing I can appreciate is that it didn't have a fairy tale ending like most movies.

OK, I think I understand...I guess I have never found a gore movie that I can say I 'loved', though they can be entertaining.

A good article, and it does help me understand what someone would like about it. It did disturb me, as was its intention...but so do many others (such as the one I started this thread with). Guess this one just didn't do as much for me...but maybe it deserves another watch.

Kind of reminds me of the ever popular 'Pulp Fiction' which everyone seemed to love but I hated intensely. In fact, that movie made me very biased against Tarantino in general until I saw Kill Bill...then I understood his movies, and now I love them. I think the main thing that finally grabbed me is that one of my all time favorite movies is 'The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly' which I believe Tarantino draws much inspiration from.
