Name a movie that you love but others don't...and you can't understand why

Eastern Promises is awesome. A History of Violence is good, Crash is ok. Videodrome is freaking awesome, though I have not seen it in a while, so not sure how it stands up. I loved Scanners when I was a kid, but again, have not seen it in a while.

Also...The Fly! Could be my favourite Cronenberg movie ever! :awe:

Crash and eXistenZ are awesome. HoV is mediocre. Videodrome does not hold up, BUT JAMES WOODS AND DEBBIE HARRY DO! Long live the new flesh!

The fact that some Hollywood schlock thought it would be okay to reuse the title of this film for that vacuous fluff piece on racism drives me bananas!

Oddly, I have never seen scanners.

Wow, of that list, this is the only one I have heard of and seen...and it deserves another viewing since it's been so long, and I remember it being an interesting film.

Avatar would be the opposite of this thread for me, everyone loves it except me.

Any way on the original question, for me Water World is definetely up there. I guess everyone hated that movie except me

Avatar and Water World are much alike. Both had pretty meh stories and cost a shit ton to make, but it was the box office that made or break them. If Avatar had bombed in theater, or just done ok, it would have been endlessly compared to Water World. In the end, the sets couldn't carry Water World, but the beautiful CG in Avatar did.

Magnolia is perfect for this list and any good movie that last for over 2 hours or a movie that doesn't have a concrete ending. There was some weird plot devices in Magnolia that can really mess with the average person (the "rain" near the end).

Children of Men is an example of a movie that some don't like because it some ways the story feels unfinished.

I can't begin to tell you how many people I manage to get fired up when I say how awesome Nacho Libre is.

First off, the nun is hot. Second, the entire movie is so outlandish that it just defies the application of reason to it. Finally, NACHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

My picks are Toys and Popeye. 2 Robin Williams movies, that while extremely unpopular, are IMO, some of his best work. LL Cool J is spectacular in Toys, and Popeye kills me everytime I see watch it. The stuff he mumbles is hilarious.

I was really young when I saw Toys so I can't give a really objective opinion but I can still remember hating it. Certainly not one of Williams best IMHO. For that I would go to Good Will Hunting, Mrs. Doubtfire, or Awakenings. Aside from these and maybe one or two others I don't really care for Williams. He can't control himself long enough to create a likable character that's not a goofball. But that's just my opinion.
