I made it to Shredder, then that was it.

heh shredder was far from the last guy as well ..

i've only beaten it on my xbox on the emulator. the last boss is the technodrome or something like that, i kind of forget. it was like some kind of tank i think. the last level i do not see how someone could beat it without cheating somehow.

no "anytime save" . . .. lot's of far apart checkpoint saves . . . .

and i never finished Super Ghouls and Ghosts on the SNES. . . .
LAST "checkpoint" game i actually finished was Castlevania for SNES

Far Cry is a pretty hard modern game (try a harder difficulty on Volcano level).

I don't beat every game I play... some are so long you lose interest.... some are just not worth beating.

I can't recall one I tried to beat and was unable to... probably something, but I can't remember.

Fantasia Diamond on the Amstrad 464 (aka Schneider 464)

i swear the game was impossible to win on......lol..never met anyone who could (and prove it).

Almost got stuck on Legend of ZeldaOT on the 64.....got to one point and just couldnt figure out wtf i had to do......luckily a friend came round and said, oh yeah, go round there and drop down that hole......bastard...lol

HL2 also got me confused at one point.......you break out from the sewers into an open bit, almost like a T junction of open air concrete sewer (like in T2 bike/lorry chase in film) on foot, and you shoot a bunch of guards....anyhow, i just couldnt find the way to get out, i got the feeling i had to stack barrells up to get up the top, but even tho i finally got them stacked up and got on top of them, it wouldnt let me jump up, so i spent ages looking around, but just could not find a way to progress.....
luckily i had bought the phat manual and gave in out of total frustration and found out where the exit was....couldnt believe it, i had looked there 5 times and didnt think the gap was big enough for me to go thru!!!....lol

Most other games i've beaten that i've played, even Pharaoh, which in my opinion is one of the greatest games of all time after LOZOT.......but then i've always had a penchant for math based things, so it suited me perfectly...lol
I havnt finished Doom3 yet tho, not cuz i cant beat it, i just got bored, i enjoy it in a way, but its very samey.....

HL was the most enjoyable game to beat tho, by far and away the best experience i have had in gaming on a PC (again, LOZOT is still the best game ever in my opinion tho when looking across all platforms).

bleah, why is work going so slow today?

-NES-
Solomons Key
Karnov
Bionic Commando
Robin Hood-Prince of Thieves
TMNT 1
Blaster Master
Rush'N'Attack
Magician

=All of them are really long with no passwords or saves.=

-SNES-
SimCity - Get most of the special maps completed. Never the last one.
Populous - Gets stupid hard towards the end.
7th Saga - Lose interest every time I get far.

=Probably several others I cant think of. Populous has 939 levels!!!! =

-PC-
Anachronox - Got to a glitch in the huge library. I had the special item but could not get through the big doors.
ES3 Morrowind - WAAAAAAY to long. The main quest is only about 50 hours, but I get side tracked on the 300 hours of optional stuff.
Might and Magic 6,7,9 - Lose interest before I could beat them. Then started games like Morrowind, KOTOR, and Baldurs Gate. Never went back.
Septerra Core - Another glitch. Have the special item, cant get an NPC to acknowledge it. No more progress.
Z - Gets real hard, real fast. Lots of fun and excellent challenge though.

----EDIT: UT2003, 2004-----
I hate the new double domination mode. Its possible to keep playing forever if the teams are balanced too well. In original Domination, somebody HAD to win eventually.
Counter Strike: Condition Zero. You have to complete objectives AND win by a certain lead. If the teams are too balanced, you'll never get ahead by three wins.

He was pretty easy to beat up, but the hard part was knocking him down the 3 times it took to get the TKO. It's been years, but from what I remember you had to watch for the wink.

Yep it was the wink. I beat him a couple of times. You also had to wait and dodge his flurry of uppercuts, then go to work.

I couldn't beat it either. I got up to shredder a couple years ago on an NES emulator in keyboarding class in high school, but it would lock up at the same doorway every time

To me, Tyson was *much* easier than Super Macho Man. I beat Tyson like 75% of the times I made it to him. Macho Man, less than 50%. That flurry of uppercuts got me almost every time.

Tyson just winked and you dodged - pretty simple pattern. Like someone mentioned, it was just a matter of squeezing in 3 knockdown in a round.

I've beat all of them I played. Someone mentioned not beating Super Mario Brothers and although I beat it I have a question. In level 1.2 where you enter the "minus" world is there anyway to get out of it? Always wondered.

Would I be totally evil, if I said that I could beat that game without losing a single turtle, at all? (The two hardest parts are those two rooms that you have to drop down through, with the moving instant-death spike-walls, and the underwater level, with the electric beams, and the timer counting down. Secondarily, you have to load up on boomerangs and wave-beam scrolls for the final level too.) I wouldn't say that the game is easy though, but it's possible to memorize the whole thing. I could also (believe it or not) beat Ninja Gaiden, CastleVania, and Ghosts N Goblins without dying. (Maybe the last one was without continuing, it's been a while.)

OTOH, here's the games that I've never beaten, most of which have been mentioned by others:
Battletoads for NES
Solomon's Key for NES
RC Pro-Am for NES
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out for NES
some Chinese Heros game from Culture Brain for NES
Athena for NES
Mighty Bomb Jack for NES
Kid Chameleon for Genesis

Boxxle for Gameboy (*)
* Interesting anecdote here - the game actually has a bug on one of the levels, that prevents you from completing all of the levels straight through. My friend, who was rather clever, managed to hack the password scheme used to keep track of your completed levels, and simply skipped past the "unsolvable" level, but got stuck on a later level, and had to call a "game counsellor" from that company, and the phone rep was floored that my friend had been able to get to that level, because "that wasn't supposed to be possible due to the bug". I found that rather funny myself.

I think that Athena has a similar problem. There was a solution printed in one of the early mags (GamePro, I think), that described how to finish it, but as it figures, that's one of the few issues that I'm missing out of my "early years" collections of video-game mags.
Worst part is, I can play the game all the way to the end boss without dying (a three-hour-plus affair, btw), but unless you go a certain specific way, and get some specific "magic item", which can only be kept if you avoid going a certain other path, in order to actually be able to harm the final end-boss. (SNK always had evil end-bosses, but this was an entirely cruel trick.) If you've ever played Athena extensively (it's kind of like SMB in terms of number of levels and length, but much slower gameplay), then you have a vague idea of the PITA that this "secret item trick" thing causes. In fact, I don't recall what that item was, or how to get it, not without that issue of the mag. I think it might have been issue #5, not sure.

BattleToads was just... cruel. RARE are a bunch of sadists. (Well, all good video-game designers are, to a certain extent, but RARE simply honed that edge to a knife-point in some of their games.) This is the game that the Game Genie was invented for, folks. Seriously. I mean, I can beat Shadow of the Beast for Genesis, Ninja Gaiden for NES without dying, but not BattleToads. How utterly frustrating. I am forced to admit defeat at the hands of a computer.

battletoads was tough but did Athena have an ending, I thought it just kept cycling forever... damn those mushrooms and kicking.

I think the main problem was game balance.
Most of those NES games came right from the arcade. The idea there is to steal as many quarters from people as possible. You are not supposed to win. Thats why so many endings just said "Thanks for Playing".
Designers kept that mentality for a long time after the move to consoles.

Probably why I switched so easily to PC games. In Doom, you could save right before the final boss. Right in the middle of the final boss. Then if you got killed, load up and get right back in there. Awesome.

I take that back. I never finished Kid Icarus.
