His 'Time Makes Two' song from that concert DVD is one of the most emotion drawing performances I've ever seen.. just his face, how he feels the music. Tell Satriani and the other fingerboard wizards to pay attention.. you can say a lot more with fewer notes than a string of 60 that have no feeling whatsoever in them.

Gilmour is also a master of 'saying a lot with very little' as is Steve Miller.

I'd also agree. Although I'd put Gilmour on the top of the list for playing with emotional feeling. I have yet to see anyone play like Gilmour does. His tone and his solos are just amazing. Also, Cray's "Soldier" song was really, really emotional. At the concert I was at in Boston (Oct. 4th) .. people were crying and stuff. I mean, the huge video displays in the arena were showing war and all this other stuff that the song mentions. Was a really moving song.

There are times when Satriani and the fret board masters are good to listen to, then there are other times when you need some Cray and Gilmour type stuff...

And btw... what concert DVD are you talking about? They made a DVD of his last tour that just ended?

The Eric Clapton 'Crossroads Guitar Festival' DVD.

I ripped the audio track off and made it an mp3 because it's that good.

Also, since people are mentioning people that ARE mainstream, throw Warren Hayes, Lindsay Buckingham and John Mayer into the mix.

JM kind of rips off SRV a lot (who doesn't have a few SRV licks in their work?) but he's slowly becoming his own musician and I expect nothing but good things from him.

Oh, yea. I thought you meant the tour that is still going on right now with Cray and Clapton and Trucks. I also ripped the Crossroads festival DVD.... because it is that good. The I 'shot the sheriff' solo is ridiculous.
