I'd throw in James Cromwell and Oliver Platt. Not sure if Cromwell got an Oscar nomination from L.A. Confidential or not, so that might strike him from the technically not underrated list. Platt could probably not carry a movie, but when I think of all the supporting roles he's done, he's tended to do them well.

some of you guys have a pretty weird idea of "underrated"

Other than Jack Black, the only other actor out there that has the chops but not the respect (ie underrated) is Adam Sandler.

Campbell Scott..... Freakin Amazing.....
Gillian Anderson.... She's popular, but only cause we geeks though she was hot..... Not really recognized for her acting chops.....
The captian on "Rescue me" Who's wife has alzhiemers......... Jack Mcgee that guys been around the block
Eric Roberts... Julia's brother..... I've seen some of his B movies and he's really good
Ron Livingston - office space, Band of Brothers
Greg Kinnear - never really won any awards that I know of

he's not underrated, though. he's widely respected AND he's starring in Mission Impossible III.
