I have an Arisaka similar to that, except yours looks shorter (no offense), and mine doesn't have the bayonet. Also my Mum is intact.

The mum is the flower crest

Unless you're jesus I can say with relative certainty that your mum is not intact.

That crest means you have an early war model, far superior to the later models in the war. They stopped stamping the metal with that crest and started using cheaper metals and wood to save on resources as they started to lose the war. It seems like you have quite a nice piece there, I would have it appraised.

Hope this helps

Looks like a arisaka to me, with a defaced imperial chrysanthemum crest.

I have one that my dad brought back from his WWII experience. Also have bagged a couple of deer with it. last time i bought rounds for it they were about $1.50 each so i havent shot it in several years. I will clean it once a year doing stuff like keeping it oiled both metal and wood so it keeps looking good.

I want to buy a bayonette for it but havent found one yet in good condition.

This thread reminds me that I really need to hunt down an Arisaka some day.

The rifles in Japanese army hands were destroyed after the war. Vet bringbacks and the odd lot left in Asia are really all that remain. Don't see them very often at the gun shows either.

*que horrible gunshow flashback of passing up a Johnson M1941 rifle for $400*

I had one "sporterized" a long time ago. Among other things, the bolt was turned down. Pretty good weapon.

If I remember correctly, before a Japanese soldier was to surrender his weapon at the end of WWII, he was to remove the Imperial sign of the Emperor - the chrysanthemum
