Arena:The Elder Scrolls. That game was classic. I really loved the spell builder.

red alert and quake 2.

i looked forward to every mod of the week on mondays for quake 2.

games will never give me the joy that they once did. i'd trade my fancy rig, cablemodem and games today to go back to aol quake 2 matches and westwood chat.

Civilization 2 / MOO 2
Sim City 4
Privateer / Freelancer

A lot of these games have one thing in common, they're open ended in some way. They're also highly re-playable without actually feeling like you've done the same thing twice. Both are huge pluses in my book.

I tried the MMORPG like Everquest but it became monotonous to play. Just felt like I was going to work.

Fallout

Wing Commander I - IV & Privateer (it helped that when I played III and IV I was about 13 or 14 and didn't notice how bad the acting and dialogue was)

X-Com

Master of Orion II

Civ I & II

F-117A (probably less well known, made by MicroProse way back in the day)

SimCity 2000

Jagged Alliance 2

Kings Quest VI

Damn, I swear that computer games used to be more fun.

Hmmm. I think I'll go with X-com because it is something I still play.

Civ II also gets a vote, only reason I don't play it still is because of Civ IV.

Online FPS: Quake (especially with CTF and Team Fortress!)
Lan FPS: Duke3D
Single Player FPS: Half Life (Team Fortress Classic made this great for online play too though ...)
4X: Alpha Centari was fvckin great! Awesome single player or multi player.
RTS: Total Annihilation, my favorite RTS by far.
RPG: I'm gonna say Fallout here. It was really quite awesome. Fallout 2 as well, since it was nice having the car hehehe
Economic: Transport Tycoon Deluxe was my favorite, even liked it better than all the simcity games and railroad tycoon.
