Elite on the Apple ii (I guess that's not a PC)

I just now replaying System Shock 2 on my recently aquired Windows 98 PC, and it is such a fantastic game.

I don't know if it's my setup or what, but the PC I built a few years ago started having extraordinary difficulty with really old games (and it's getting worse). SS2 was just one of many.

Since my Windows 98 PC has been in pieces for a while now, I bought a "new" one for $100.

It's golden to just be able to pop in old games and play them without problems.

Hell - I bought a set of old Tomb Raider games (up to Last Revelation) a few years ago and I've never been able to play them until now.

I loved AoE but I suck bad at RTSs I couldn't even finish the single player campaign. I never managed to get past the level where you had to destroy the other civilizations wonder.

Speaking of classics...you can get Deus Ex for a few dollars from Steam. Download the 800 meg updated texture pack and the DX 10 renderer and it's party time. The game now looks like it's from 2001 instead of 1998

Favorite "Classic" game? If we only have to go back 5 years, then mine are:

Unreal Tournament (1999) -- it's hard to think of it as a "classic" because people are still playing it in online multiplayer to this day.

In terms of real classics--going back about 20 years:

Empire: Wargame of the Century (map-based war strategy game that was later followed by Empire Deluxe)

Star Fleet I: the War Begins (a then awesome starship simulator game few people have ever heard of)

Starflight (space-based RPG-like adventure game)

Ultima 5
