I always had a PC to game on, but I believe it was System Shock 2 that got me saving for a real gaming PC, and had me ditching the consoles.

TFC ... Oh how much I loved that game... 56k 370 ping... Best times of my life! I miss and cherish those days, it's a shame that TF2 just didn't grab me the way TFC did

I think that would be Wolfenstein 3D. Me and a buddy found it on one of the computers from the computer science classes and holy sh!t We were drawing maps on paper to look for secrets and not forget what we already checked!

Was way back in primary school, those were 286 PC ATs we were playing on

Starcraft. I remember laughing at my room mate for being so enthusiastic about it until he explained to me that it was more than controlling small units to do this or that. I gave it a try during my next off day and didn't move from the chair for 12 hours.

When I got back to work eventually I could still hear the scv's in my head:"yes sir", "right away" and the mineral mining noise. I must have burned through the campaign like ten times before jumping to b-net

I first started playing PC games on my uncle's Tandy 1000. There wasn't really any one game back then.

However Once I got my own PC, the original C&C was a big one that I had to have. A friend had it and it was awesome.

On my Tandy 1000EX there was a "How computers work" disk that came with the PC that showed you how RAM and CPU and all of that worked. Throughout the slideshow or tutorial or whatever there were little mini-games. I can remember playing that through hundreds of times.

But the first ever "game" was Mickey's Space Adventure and Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre Wood. Both games were just the typical North/South/East/West game and it took about 3-4 seconds for the screen to draw the image but I played them everyday. I finally got to Pluto after like two years and it was the greatest feeling. I don't think I ever passed the Pooh game (you had to find items all over the wood after a tornado or something).

Then I got into Gunship! - a helicopter game, and after that the Police Quest games, which were incredible.

Edit: I just have to say I did a google search for Winnie the Pooh and the Hundred Acre wood Tandy 1000EX, and not more than 4 minutes after my post it's the fifth hit on Google. Wow.

Before my family had a computer, I would go play Simcity at my friends house, which completely made me forget about my NES.

When my family finally got a computer, i first got X-wing, and couldn't quite figure out how to get it running (i was pretty young, and never seen DOS before); but it was TIE fighter that made me love pc gaming, and the side effect of that was i learned all about boot disks, high MEM, RAM, and operating systems in general.

Oh man I forgot TFC. My friends dad was the IT admin for our school and we would end up going into the lab and play TFC on the weekends. It was so sweet because the school had just got a T1 line .

The first games I played were in computer class - Gizmoes and gadgets and Oregon Trail.

The game I play that got me hooked on gaming was Microsoft Ants.

Please tell me someone here played Microsoft Ants.

Elvira 2, The Jaws of Cerberus. And looking at this thread I think most of you have no clue what I'm talking about.

Next up was Doom and after that I never bought another console or console game. Of course, in recent years it seems the PC is losing its luster. But overall I feel its the platform that encourages the most innovation and experimenting. Nothing truly original has come from consoles since the PS1.

EDIT:
I did play Oregon Trail and Number Crunchers and Odell Lake, but those arent real video games in my mind. And if thats all that had ever been, I never would have cared after that.
