Illmatic is 10 tracks, 1 intro and 9 songs.
Each song is perfect
The beats are perfect
The lyrics are perfect
You could NOT improve this album. It is just perfect
It is hailed as one of, if not the greatest hip hop album of all time.
Nas has never been able to, and never will ever in his career make an album better than this. He has tried. Dozens of rappers have tried.
The closest album to being as perfect as this, is Rakim's Paid in Full.
Every line has about 20-30 quotable lines in it.
It is probably the most quoted hip hop album of all time.
Every line is dope.
There is not 1 wack line in this whole album.
Only one guest appearance, from AZ.
Even his foes (*cough Jay-z*) respect (and worship) this album.

Here are some quotes...

"Once they caught us off guard, the Mac-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin"

"In the P.J.'s, my blend tape plays, bullets are strays
Young b!tches is grazed each block is like a maze"

"and lamp like Capone, with drug scripts sewn
Or the legal luxury life, rings flooded with stones, homes"

"cops could just arrest me, blamin us, we're held like hostages
It's only right that I was born to use mics"

"Inhale deep like the words of my breath
I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death".

"My physical frame is celebrated cause I made it
One quarter through life some God-ly like thing created"

"Time is Illmatic keep static like wool fabric
Pack a four-matic that crack your whole cabbage".

"The fiend of hip-hop has got me stuck like a crack pipe
The mind activation, react like I'm facin time like
'Pappy' Mason with pens I'm embracin"

"And I'm amped up, they locked the champ up, even my brain's in handcuffs
Headed for Indiana stabbin women like the Phantom".

"You couldn't catch me in the streets without a ton of reefer
That's like Malcolm X, catchin the Jungle Fever
King poetic, too much flavor, I'm major
Atlanta ain't Brave-r, I'll pull a number like a pager"

"I'm max like cassettes, I flex like sex
In ya, stereo sets, Nas'll catch wreck"

"I got to have it, I miss Mr. Magic
Versatile, my style switches like a fa99ot"

"And in the darkness, I'm heartless like when the NARC's hit
Word to Marcus Garvey I hardly sparked it".

"Think I'll dim the lights then inhale, it stimulates
Floating like I'm on the North 95 Interstate"

"The parlayer, I'll make ya heads bop Pah
I shine a light on perpetrators like a cop's car".

"Deep like The Shinin', sparkle like a diamond
Sneak a uzi on the island in my army jacket linin
Hit the Earth like a comet, invasion
Nas is like the Afrocentric Asian, half-man, half-amazin
Cause in my physical, I can express through song
Delete stress like Motrin, then extend strong"

Speak with criminal slang, begin like a violin
End like Leviathan, it's deep well let me try again"

"You're still a soldier, I'm like Sly Stone in Cobra
Packin like a rasta in the weed spot".

You know.. I can quote this whole album.. it is endless, with dope lines.

wow, couldn't have said it better. I opened this thread and the first thing I thought was "illmatic" then I scrolled down and you beat me to it . best post i've seen on ATOT in a while.

Not their most popular, but certainly the one with the most variety from song to song. Also one of their more "darker" albums.

I think you and I are the only people who love that album!

Guster - Lost and Gone Forever.

great album.

Yeah...it's good...I think I liked Goldfly better though

Parachute is easily Guster's best offering, but you have to listen to it a few times before it really "hits" you.

I will nominate:
[Don't laugh]
John Mayer - Inside Wants Out

And I can't believe no one that I saw has mentioned the greatest album you've never heard of -
SUFJAN STEVENS - ILLINOIS
