Credit to ianobermiller @ SD:

20% off Namecheap domains (inc renewals), hosting, SSL, and email at Namecheap

Use code FCDISCOUNT to get 20% domains, hosting, SSL, and email. The code applies to domain renewals as well, so you can lock in your domain at a good rate for a few years. Renewing a .com for one year is $8.55 with this deal.

Good deal if you want to stay with namecheap, but if you use or need the WHOIS privacy namesilo would be cheaper. $8.39 for transfers and $8.99 for new domains and renewals without the need for coupons. New users can get a one time $1 off with coupon "buckoffdomain"

Agreed, I'll be moving to namesilo.com when my domains are up for renewal in 2045.

I've used namecheap for quite a few years as well. For just a couple of domains, a couple bucks a year is pretty meaningless. I always liked that they were an eNom reseller, so you got eNom's free DNS thrown in. I recall they became an ICANN registrar themselves some years back, but I haven't registered a name with them in recent years. What's the story there? Are new domain name registrations done with namecheap or still eNom?

Nice, I may check out if any of my domains are close to expiry.

On subject of whois privacy, is there any service out there that allows you to basically get a "fake" physical address that redirects to your real one? That is my primary concern and is why I get whois privacy, but it kinda adds up when you have lot of domains. If I could pay a flat fee for such redirection service I could just reuse it for each domain. I don't care too much about phone number, I can probably get a SIP trunk and setup a Voip switch or something.

I also wonder if whois privacy has any effect on SEO. It kinda makes sense in a way as a bigger more "official" site won't typically use it.

Why in the world would the physical address of a domain name registrant ever be needed/used? I've always used a made-up one.

I don't know why, I just know that it's required to use a real address. Not really sure what the repercussions are if you don't but I imagine you could lose the domain, or if some odd situation arose they could use that as proof that you own the domain. Ex: some kind of renew/transfer situation where the admin email is no longer valid or something.

I may look into a PO box again for the address, but last time I did that, they did not offer auto pay for the PO box, which is kinda a pain. I hate having to pay for things manually, I just want it to be a bill that comes out automatically. So I ended up just letting it expire. Need to check into that again. They also offer a service where you can get packages delivered to a "virtual" address, I may be able to use that service, and then use that address.

For phone I'd just setup a voip server. Been wanting to play with Asterisk anyway.

Makes absolutely no sense to set up a transfer address or PO Box for mail that will never be sent. That's absurd. Just use WHOIS privacy if you're actually worried about losing a domain because you didn't use your real address.

That's what I'm doing now, but it adds up having to pay for it for each domain. If I got a PO box it would be a proper legal address, but I don't have to pay for whois privacy anymore. At least I assume ICANN allows PO boxes... would need check to make sure.
