Grandpa.
97.

Got shot the first week of the war. Lost about 30 or 40 friends. Which is scary cuz his graduating class was only 100 people, boys and girls.
Came back home and made a family. Spent a good fifty years at the lumbermill. Could still fling nurses around his apartment right up until the end.
I BELIEVE he made stocks for M-14's but I could be mistaken.

E. Norman Nelson. Pvt, USA 1940-1941.

As tough as he was we just assumed he'd hit a hundred.

He got up this afternoon and fell over. Was placed in bed.
Cousin and aunt went to go see him. He tried to get himself out of bed again and just keeled over right in front of them. By the time the nurse got there he was gone.

Other cousin called me and mom tonight. They split up the list of people to inform. He had no friends left alive so it wasnt too hard. I have like 6 other cousins that are scattered to the winds, but since they never show up for any family events I dunno if people are gonna even try to track them down.

I am ashamed to say that at least one of them is AWOL from the Army, and has been for over 20 years. If they ever do catch him he will spend the rest of his short life in jail. Technically he's missed two or three major wars.
