Proof that the people in Washington, D or R, just don't get it. They don't care about anything except getting elected again.

Pelosi did not do anything to advance the United States as a whole, nor has any elected official in decades. DECADES.

If you need any proof, look out the window, we have record high unemployment (which has been climbing for a lot longer than Obama has been in the White House), we have jobs leaving the country in droves, we have so much trouble in this country that I can't even believe it, and still the politicians only want to pad their own pockets.

Okay, that's good for him. My point was that Pelosi's air accommodations were similar to her predecessor (except that she needed a plane with longer range to reach CA), and that those accommodations came from President Bush. If you don't like it, that's fine. It's not unique to her though.
I don't like it.

BTW...you previously said "You realize that the requirements for Nancy Pelosi's travel were put into place by President Bush after September 11th, right?"

FYI...the Speaker is NOT required to use military jets...Bush's Executive Order on 9/14 only authorizes their use.

While I normally don't read werepossum I ran across this.

I suspect the images of boehner's junk will be orange, even in a monochrome system.

So THAT'S your problem!

He is a funny color. I don't watch much political television anymore, so when I see him I have to figure out who he is. Usually I first think I've seen him in clips on The Soup from that New Jersey show where everyone is orange.

Honestly the liquor bill bothers me more, that and sending military jets to shuttle her family members. I accept that I owe her as Speaker a jet capable of making the trip home in one hop. I do NOT accept that I owe her and her massive entourage a buzz on the way. That needs to come from her own millions.

I suspect there's a decent chance that Boehner's commercial air travel will end, after the PR glow of saying he'll do it has been obtained.

He might do it - the military aircraft were begun in the period of anti-terrorism hype - but I wouldn't be surprised for him to 'be advised of the need for security' and give in.

The PR benefits will last a while - and could reinforce the 'Pelosi demanded special treatment' lie the right has milked so much, especially now that she's minority leader.

That's the tactic - while the Republicans protect the rich with trillions of the public's money, they look for stunts to try to tell the lie that they're the ones for the little guy.

Wasn't Pelosi was one of the loudest critics when automobile CEOs flew to DC in their private jets? This woman is a piece of work.

You are correct, actually that recommendation came from the House's sergeant at arms, the guy responsible for the security of the Speaker. In addition, she utilized government travel resources to a significantly smaller extent than her predecessor.

I don't see why any of this matters though, my only point was that to call Pelosi out specifically for that was stupid, as it was not behavior unique to her.

When you car company is failing and you need money from the government to keep afloat, yeah, you bet your ass you're going to get criticized for it. This is on the same level as coming to work in a Ford when you work for GM.

Is it stupid to criticize her for using a military jet to taxi her family and friends around WITHOUT her present?

Is it stupid to criticize her for racking up HUGE bar tabs at the tax payers expense?

Is it stupid to point out her hypocrisy when she blasts CEOs for using private jets to fly to DC?

Was this behavior not unique to her?

Ignorant people crawl out from under rocks and spout false proclamations like this, like seals trained to bark at the government.

Yes, we have big problems, and you have no idea why we do, blaming the wrong people who are you told to blame - by the ones who are causing the problems.

Look, the Democrats are not a 'liberal party' nearly as much as they should be, and you can find plenty of examples where they do too little, and many are not much if any better than Republicans at serving the powerful interests who you should learn about and be concerned about.

But attacking them from the left legitimately, is not the ridiculous attack that this is about 'padding their own pockets'.

If a state had the mafia so powerful it 'owned' the government, would you describe the problems without mentioning the mafia? That's what you do here.

Now with our system more and more corrupted by the even worse problem than 'bribes', where the powerful can legally largely determine who has any chance to be elected to a majority with legal donations that are massive and anonymous on an ongoing basis, there's no need for criminal 'bribes' - and add in the system where lawmakers can be legally 'bribed' with the expectation of a lucrative lobbying or 'contracting' position after leaving office if they're good boys and girls...

Out of this mess, Pelosi did a hell of a lot better than most - at getting bill after bill passed *for the people* against the powerful interests.

And you single her out for attack, showing that you are so uninformed you are playing into the hands of those who are hurting the country which you complain about.

It's exactly your kind of uninformed - or wrongly informed - views that are killing the country by empowering the people who pay for the propaganda you fall for.

This is on the same level as having huge deficit, trying to raise taxes and yet spending 10s of millions of The People's money on your personal transportation.

Fixed.

I guess you could say her going after the car company CEOs was unique to her, but how could it not be? There was no other Speaker at that time.

Every other speaker has taken an entourage with them wherever they go, and while I don't have numbers on the bar tabs of previous Speakers I would bet good money they are significant. Not to mention that all the additional flights Denny Hastert took over what Pelosi took more than exceeded what her bar tab was. (by snopes.com's estimate he went back to his district almost every weekend, she went back about once a month)

Of all the things to complain about Pelosi for, this is dumb.

Yeah...they should have drove. Meanwhile it's OK for Pelosi to fly her family and friends anywhere they want...with an open bar to boot...with the government so deeply in debt?

I dont think he thought his statement through before he typed it. He let his blind support for Pelosi cloud his judgement.

It's a lie, is what it is.

Even the right-wing Judicial Watch who made a major investigation and campaign of attacking her flight practices, sent this correction to someone claimed what you do:

Mr. Ross,

We saw your analysis of the recent Pelosi flight documents Judicial Watch obtained from the Air Force.

Double-checking, we found documents we obtained last year on this issue. The other documents seem to show that the Speaker was on most if not all of the flights in question.

... it looks like she was, at least, on the flights with them.

Is it stupid to criticize her for racking up HUGE bar tabs at the tax payers expense?

How huge? Who was on the flights? I've only seen a total including food, and including for extended overseas travel.

Not to mention, the cost of her meals to the taxpayer at least isn't a corporate donor buying her trips - which can be a LOT more expensive for the taxpayer.

Is it stupid to point out her hypocrisy when she blasts CEOs for using private jets to fly to DC?

Of course CEOs getting bailouts from taxpayers as their companies are going bankrupt have the same need to fly private luxury jets for their security, as the Speaker of the House has security guidelines laid out by the Bush administration for her security to fly on military aircraft. Right-wing blather.

Was this behavior not unique to her?

It doesn't matter, and no it wasn't. Her Republican predecessor was the first to commute on military aircraft under the Bush guidelines.

Once again, the irresponsibly accepts right-wing propaganda lies (about her family and friends jetting around without her at taxpayer expense), and we have to correct you.

Get better news sources, or at least check a little before spreading the propaganda.

A.) She represented her district just fine, B.) if other people didn't, that's their fault, not her.

You don't appear to know what the Speaker's job is. (we'll just add that on to the things you talk about that you don't know) The Speaker's job is to get legislation passed through the House, and she was enormously effective at that.

It's pretty easy to get things done when you have a super or close to a super majority. It doesn't mean she was good at her job. It means she had a stacked deck to play with.

The blind cannot see. But switch the (R) and (D) letters behind their names...and things suddenly become magically different.

Meanwhile Boehner will continue to fly back and forth to his district on commercial aircraft. The 'good ol' days of $100,000 bar tabs are over.

That figure, that I've seen, *includes food*, includes large groups, includes extended travel. Stop repeating lies.
