I've had two family members who requested parties instead of funerals. We did our mourning, had an open casket viewing, then everybody got together for a big potluck and had a great time.

People were smiling. It was a lot of fun. Until then, I'd never done that before. It's great to celebrate someone's life with loved ones instead of mourning a loss and somber.

I was at my Grandfather's funeral when I was around 14 years old. I was sitting on chair in the hallway, next to my cousin (5 years my senior), outside of the main room.

The main funeral director walked by and he had a gigantic handlebar moustache, curled up on both ends. My Cousin did not say a word, just elbowed me and pointed at the dude and his ridiculous moustache, and I burst out laughing uncontrollably. I could not stop laughing. Tears started coming down my face I was laughing so hard and I was making all kinds of noise. Part of it was probably because of all of the emotion of the time, but still, super embarrassing and I felt bad, even though I couldn't help it. Who the hell has a moustache like that!!

Even now though, just thinking about that, I am chuckling. :$

I laughed at my brother's memorial services. I told jokes, I made others laugh. Many people did this. ...this was only 4 months ago.

I've laughed at my grandfather's funeral, at my uncle's funeral, at friend's funerals.

Anyone who thinks there is something wrong with that, can simply go fuck themselves, DIAF, TPAD, or various combinations of the above. I really see no use in this world for the type of soulless wise and beautiful woman-stained troglodyte that would think such is improper, or simply find the time to criticize it.
