This has the best GUI of any of the services based on the FastTrack protocol stack. Basically, it's Gnutella done right: no centralized servers, but completely functional. Yes, as good as Napster, I daresay. Too bad FastTrack is a closed protocol: there are lots of Linux users out there who need to pirate music too, ya know

I have to agree that Music city's Morpheus rocks. I use it now. Morpheus is based on the same software that kazaa.com used. I think you will enjoy it for all types of downloads.

It's not really. It looks to be the same exact software. I was just think that musiccity has so many servers. I used to connect to them with File Navigator but for the napster interface but I had a lot of problems with it. Then I noticed everyone migrating from napster and went to musiccity looking for a replacement and found morpheus there. I have seen a lot of kazaa.com email extensions on the morpheus connection so they actually be the same thing. For all I know you may be connecting into musiccity through kazaa also.

I also use WinMX, and use napigator to export a list of open nap servers to WinMX to increase search hits.

If you want the music as well as videos or even full length movies (DivX) go use BearShare.

If you got a HIGH speed connection the DivX/mpegs/avi's are great.

IMO, what makes a good file-sharing program is # of users and # of files. Morpheus is great because there's always more than 600,000 users logged in and the number keeps growing as word spreads. It's catching on quickly, just like Napster.

Yeah, I think this is actually in a good place, because it's a hot deal for people who don't know about this stuff. Some people think that Napster died and File-sharing along with it.

Also try MyNapster @ MyNapster.com It's pretty good and easy to use. Stay away from iMesh and Bearshare as they install spyware.

Also, if you're worried about spyware, there's a great little program called ad-aware made by lavasoft that you can download for free from download.com that will wipe all spyware off your computer.

Limewire-gnutella based, you'll see users from all the gnutella programs with files. And no secret tracking stuff like is present in bearshare.

I use both, what I can't get from one I usually find with the other.
I have an older version of bearshare but could not get it to work on another pc thru ics. It's ok, except for the nag to update so they can track you.
