Napster

Hi,

I have trouble using Napster. I installed the newest version napv2b10-2, but when I search for artist or titles it doesn't find anything. Did they block it completely that we can't use it anymore?
I have tried to install it in more than one computer win98, NT and W2K but I get the same exact problem.

Any comments? Thank you.

You might like kazaa better than morpheus. Morpheus is a HUGE memory hog whereas Kazaa is the same thing but slightly less memory usage for the same program.

You also have to remember kazaa limits to 128kbps, which will make all your music have poorer quality. Even though Morpheus uses alot of memmory, I dont have a problem with it while surfing and listening to mp3s.

Napster really should be renamed Crapster. It blows so bad that it isn't even worth wasting any time on. You spend most of the time trying to decipher what the songnames are supposed to be, that is if you can find any with your search criteria.

I have been using WinMX all day and it is pretty good. It is very napster like in look and feel. Sometimes it is hard to get good download speeds even on broadband, but Napster suffered from this also. Every song or artist I typed in returned more results than were needed to get a good file. Most of the files I downloaded today were also 320kb/s and were of very good quality. Even obscure artists returnd hits. I am quite happy with WinMX at the momment.

try bearshare it is a decent prog for finding any type of file and good connection speeds...also another good one that I have used besides winMX.....is limewire

At first I hated it but I REALLY like audiogalaxy now.

Just install it, UNINSTALL the webhancer software.. Adaware to get rid of some, reboot, adaware again to get rid of the rest of the spyware and you'll be set.

One word: WinMX -- it's basically like napster, even has napster's chat rooms, give it a look.

Thank you guys for your valuable information. I'm trying WinMX and I like it. I'm gonna try it tomorrow in my job where I have a high speed connection. I like 192 and 256kbp mp3s 128s no good.

Unfortunately I'm starting to favor wma files. I can easily transfer them to my iPaq pocketpc or my rio 600 and still have excellent quality and small file sizes. The new version 8 encoder sounds great at lower bitrates.

Yes, these other programs all will most likely work. I am using Morpheus right now.

But nothing will compare to the old Napster days...

Been on Morpheus for a few days now and it is fine. Memory is so cheap now if you have problems just drop a few bucks.

If you like the Napster interface, you could always download Napigator and use it on non Napster servers.

Is there any other Napster like application that allows you to find more obscure, non-commercial music? Was able to find a ton of very rare, indepedent, "underground" etc artists on Napster but am not having any luck with any of the clones. Seem only good for popular, commerical music.

Anything even remotely as good as Napster?
