unfortunately we have no idea if that is true or not. unlike many sports it is damn near impossible to even start in racing. how many racing leagues for 12 year olds are there? damn near none. whereas there are tons of basketball, football, baseball, soccer, whatever, leagues out there for kids, high schoolers, college, etc.

Hello, there are tons of small race tracks out there, just waiting for new racers. Kids as little as 5 years old can race..

Actually, there are quite a few leagues where kids can start racing. A lot of the younger drivers in NASCAR today started racing shifter gokarts, then progressed to Legends cars, then Outlaws, and up and up. There may not be ready made cookie cutter organizations like highschool football or Saturday morning soccer leagues, but if you want to do it it can be done. A little effort is all that's required.

I *wish* I could be ignorant about NASCAR, except for the fact that every day I've gotta listen to my favorite sports station talk on and on about how fvcked up Sunday's race was. For all the money NASCAR makes, its the least professionally-run pro league in the nation. Hopefully its just growing pains..but NASCAR has a lot of maturing to do. For one, they need to agree on the basic rules *BEFORE* a season starts.

To quote Hank Hill, "Just when I think you've said the most stupid thing I ever heard, you keep talking". I will not argu anymore with you, because it's obvious you have no idea what the hell you're talking about and have no intention on listening to anyone else who DOES know.

Find another sports station that talks about the stuff YOU like, because it's all about YOU, right?

Oh, and last time I checked, there were other sports that changed the rules almost EVERY season, like, oh let's see, the NFL and NHL.

I started racing go carts when i was 9, did motorcross at 10-17, did sprint cars at 12-18.

you would be amazed at how many tracks there are. heck we have a track near me now. For $500 i can buy and enter a car and race it this Saturday.

Though to be a professional race car driver the odds are slim. But then again so are the odds on being a professional baseball, football or basketball player..espially when you are 5'6

Jigga - you need to relax about it all.

Cheating in Nascar goes back to the 1950s. And so do sudden rules changes.

When Mopar pulled a fast one on Nascar in 1964, they were punished for it every year afterward until they were forced to drop the Hemi from competition.

That fast one was the use of the single 4bbl race hemi in Daytona. The hemi was not an option on any Mopar at that time. Their cars finished 1,2,3 and 5th. 4th was a Ford.

This kind of thing is what Nascar is all about.

Dude you're pissing me off. If you don't know what you are talking about, don't talk about it. Nascar is a sport for all the above reasons. Drag racing is also a sport for that matter.

Jimmy Spencer......but i love him

Spencer is my favorite driver. He is one of the few guys left that isn't affraid to say whats on his mind and I love that. Everybody else so afraid of Nascar and ticking people off it makes me sick. Glad he finally found another ride even if it is a POS.

Now bad to the topic
How many threads do we need on this forum about how much 95% of you hate Nascar? I think we understand so please STFU about it.

3. stock car = marketing. race on sunday, sell on monday. even if you dont like it its a smart way of making money who thinks their sedan is what they use in NASCAR. if you think a real stock car can hold up going around in circles go ahead and go watch your so called ricers.

4. new regulations dictated the yellow flag on sunday. you have 23 races left where you can watch them "race"

It makes money because NASCAR is smarter than stupid people like IRL and CART whose fans got sick of the drama and politics. it makes money because it follows the american idea of horsepower and torque... and what this country is known for... "more is better".

NASCAR gets a lot of flak for only turning left, so called "no talents" ...what about drag racing? they only go straight... they dont even turn. the races last less than 4 seconds. oh wait... you can't play drag racing.
Just so you see it....It makes money because NASCAR is smarter than stupid people like IRL and CART whose fans got sick of the drama and politics. it makes money because it follows the american idea of horsepower and torque... and what this country is known for... "more is better".

The MOST IMPORTANT question of this thread topic needs to be asked!

How do the drivers hold their bladder for a 3 hour race? Driving for me causes me to produce urine at faster rate, so driving at 150+ has to be extreme.

They don't need to urinate because inside the cars the temps are so high that they are constantly sweating. So they sweat out whatever they would have pissed out. It's not uncommon for a driver to lose 10+ pounds a race just from sweating.

I believe it was in 2000 or 2001 when Tony Stewart ran the Indy500 and the Coca-Cola 600 in ONE day. He was so drained from the racing and travelling that he ws in pretty sad shape at the end of it all.

Football, Baseball and Basketball are all child games. Nascar isn't

Yes it is becoming a money pit. It is difficult to even find the running order on nascar.com without having to pay a monthly membership to RealPlayer. It is becoming money driven. Well I guess that it has always been money driven but they are so obvious about it now.

They cheat in baseball, football etc ... ever heard of steroids? or other performance enhancers for the sporting world?

They did not change the rules during the race... They were changeg beforethe season started. The only questionable thing they did was not go back to green for a 1-2 lap shootout. To me it was understandable since when they do that most of the time there is a huge wreck and someone gets hurt.

Wow, what a hell of a sportman to do two races in 1 day.

I only watch F1 and I think Formula 1 need hell of a lot more skill than NASCAR.
Besides, F1 is a lot more interesting to me.

Yeah, the biggest money pit racing series on the face of the earth, F1, and probably the most boring. A 2-hour parade lap, over and over and over. Schumacher takes the lead on the start and is never seen again by any other competitor. Over and over and over. Cars that rarely pass one another except for the also-rans at the tail-end of the parade line. Yeah, that F1 sure is full of excitement and thrills and edge-of-the-seat who-is-going-to-win?

Let me say I really like F1 racing as well, but how can you say F1 is more difficult when they have a program in the computer just for the start of the race. Add traction control into that and I don't see it as taking more skill. Now different skills than Nascar yes. But to be honest Schumaker wouldn't finish a race @ talledega or Bristol, but I do believe Jeff Gordon could do well in F1.

I personally have no interest in it. For what it's worth I think there should be two classes of vehicle racing:

1) Street legal. I don't care about what you do to the car as long as it's street legal (included would be the auto cross races you see on TV - these are interesting).

2) Fastest freaking cars you can make. Don't have to be street legal but just throw science and engineering in to make the fastest car on the road. That's why F1 is better than Nascar. Nascar is just silly with arbitrary rules to limit the performance of vehicles.

NASCAR is the second only to the NFL in popularity. It is one of the last true AMERICAN sports. Nascar fans are proven to be some of the loyalist fans of any sport, that is why sponserships can cost several millions of dollars a year. Companies would not be paying out that kind of money if they did not make anything in return... Nascar is in my opinion the most respectible sport out there, you do not see them raping, shooting, stabing or killing anyone else do you? The MLB, NBA & NFL are now turning into drug rehab facilities. Just ask Barry Bonds...
