CHICAGO – Two Illinois lawmakers say violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard must be called in to help.
Chicago Democratic Reps. John Fritchey and LaShawn Ford made a public plea to Gov. Pat Quinn on Sunday to deploy troops.


The request comes amid a recent surge in violent crime, including a night last week that saw seven people killed and 18 wounded, mostly by gunfire.
Fritchey says Chicago has had 113 homicide victims this year. He says the police department has done a commendable job, but its resources are stretched thin.

I live here. I can tell you it's 99.9% of the problem.

That makes absolutely no sense at all. The vast majority of it is "gang violence", where both sides are fairly confident that the other side also has a gun. So I'd say your 99.9% estimate may be just a tad high.

It will be another attack the symptom not the problem. Guns are bad lets ban them everywhere but on shooting ranges , we aren't taking away peoples right to bare arms, just limiting where they can use them, will be something like the argument they use.

Listen up Washington. I and millions of other people grew up in homes 20 years ago where there were guns in the home. Everything from handguns to rifles and shotguns and we didn't go around shooting people. Why ? We actually never considered it because we had something people are starting to lack , concern for others and morals. We knew it would be wrong to do something like that so we didn't do it.

Want to solve the gun problems in the USA ? Fix WHY people are using the guns to kill other people. Is it poor parenting, lack of education , mental defect ?

For the record, I'm not in favor either way of gun control. I don't think gun control is the variable that needs to be changed to reduce homicides.

As for your response, you've also provided as much evidence as I have, which is none. I think it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to quantify how many of these deaths could be prevented if the person getting attacked was armed.
