How/why is this a partisan issue? If a solider broke our code of justice, then he/she should be court martialed and judged by a jury of peers. I don't think anyone will disagree that we have people non-befitting the uniform in all presidencies and eras.

The alleged crimes were committed in 2010. The part where the witnesses were threatened with losing their rank and careers came in late 2017. It's a culture in the military to cover up wrong doing, but the commander-in-chief is responsible for it. If I was POTUS, I would tell the brass that there is a zero tolerance policy for covering up criminal behavior on the part of military personnel, and that anyone threatening or intimidating witnesses will be dishonorably discharged and prosecuted for obstruction. To be fair here, I don't think prior POTUSES have been able to change the culture much either, but I guaranty you Trump hasn't even tried. And IIRC none prior have taken the extraordinary step of banning international war crimes investigators from even entering the US.

I started writing a few different things, but, I realized something. Who is it that you think I'm defending here? I cant see that I'm defending anyone.

As for people that I have defended that are on the Left... it happens a lot in my personal life. My best man is gay and my mom is very firmly R. Growing up, and even today i push back against what she tries to argue. Now, you are not going to see that too often on this forum, as the vast majority of people that post on P&N are firmly Left. That said, you can find me disagreeing with Slow, and even Someone. If you go back and search my discussions with religious people, you can see me pushing back pretty firmly as I'm atheist and do not agree with pushing religion onto people.

But, the idea that Trump is wielding this man and going to point him to murder Liberals is stupid. I get the hyperbole, but, it also does not make sense as this guy is reasonably disconnected from Trump.

Go on almost any military/veteran related social media page and they all say he's getting screwed. Scary.

Doesn't surprise me. A lot of people take very well to the conditioning that the military puts them through to dehumanize people.

Sadly, you will find lots of people with mental defects like that gravitating toward the military. War often gives people like that an ability to do awful things. I hope justice is served. His actions showcase some of the worst parts of humanity.

I know nothing of the case, but if other soldiers were there. It's going to be a "good ole boys" club. Witnesses mean nothing. They are only there to obfuscate. Where they are defending each other in criminal actions. Like most police, prosecutors, and judges do. Where if you have 3 layers of corruption. Nobody will possibly get past it, and if they do, the judge will play dirty tricks and throw out evidence, etc. Just saying.

Maj. Gen. Abbas al-Jubouri, whose forces were partnered with U.S. troops, testified that he ordered his troops to hand over the militant to Gallagher and his fellow SEALs because he wanted to keep him alive for interrogation later.

The general said during defense questioning that he did not see Gallagher harm the captive in any way — and if he had, he would have spoken up.
