This nearly brought me to tears

Petty Officer Jon Tumilson, one of the Navy SEALS killed when their helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan on August 6th, was laid to rest over the weekend, and his dog, Hawkeye, wouldn’t leave his casket during the funeral.

If those 20+ SEALS were not 110% necessary for that mission, then the CO who ordered it should be discharged at the very least.

I also suspect faul play; did the Taliban receive any sort of tip that this particular bird and its cargo was inbound?

This kind of nonsense is just unbelievable. From all accounts, these SEALs were sent in to bail out Army Rangers from a fierce firefight. If that account is at all accurate, they were both arriving and departing from an extremely hostile situation. Shit happens. Helicopters get shot down, especially in Afghanistan where the higher average altitude puts them in harms way.

It only takes one RPG to take down a helicopter and, considering Chinooks are big, slow, and lumbering beasts, should we really be that surprised that one finally got shot down?

I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, but this story is totally contrived for the purpose of tugging at the heart-strings. Bringing in a dog to a funeral and snapping pictures of it in front of a casket is a bit too contrived, but oh well. To each their own.
