I'm struggling to get open looks in this game, I played a ton of NBA 2K9 which had some porous D but 2K11 is kicking my ass. The half-court offense just isn't much fun with the defenders constantly blocking any drives and picking off any lazy passes.

Do I really have to go crazy with iso moves and calling set plays each and every time down the court? The ol' "dribble into two defenders to free up a shooter" trick still works but the defenders still close the gap quite quickly in this game. Wide open looks are few and far between...

lol.. that's a bit harsh.. I remember when NBA Street Vol. 2 came out.. that was and still is, IMO, the best basketball game out... so many hours, days, and weeks of fun..

That was worth the $$ when it came out.. I haven't bought another bball game since.. and.. I'll probably wait till 2k11 is $20-30 before I buy it..

Hmmm, I'm getting a better feel for the crossovers, it may be obvious to others but I was trying to take one or two steps and bust out a crossover dribble but that doesn't work at all. In 2K11 you need to take about 4 steps in one direction before busting out the crossover, it works well then. Almost too well on the default difficulty. I'll have to bump up the difficulty and see what happens, before getting the timing on the crossover I got absolutely crushed on All-Star but I'm annihilating everyone on Pro (default) with the new crossover move (I need to learn some others ).

Liking the game a lot just struggling at the moment to find a good difficulty and sim-like gamestyle.

I got the game last night and to my great surprise, I actually won my first practice game. I didn't know how to do any of the moves so I played a pretty basic game.

As usual with 2K's NBA series, the game looks like a winner.

I was in an NBA 2K8 league a couple of years ago and struggled to win most of the time. I didn't make the playoffs but did come within 3 or 4 games of them.

I had 2K10 and played a few games of it. I am not sure I actually ever won a game. Oh, I'd get leads (some big), but I could never hold them. The disc went bad, so I decided to spend a little more and get 2K11. I am still surprised that I won and not only that, won easily.

I haven't played an EA basketball game in a couple of years, but compared to NBA 2Kx, they really were awful.

I guess this is what happens when EA can't muscle in and get an exclusive contract and has to compete with a better product. They take their ball and go home. Yes, I'm still pissed about Madden.

You're telling me! I rented NBA 2k11 and started playing the franchise mode. Its SOOOO much more polished and realistic. I can control minutes played, type of offense run, how many minutes bench players get etc etc..... I don't really enjoy basketball that much, so I don't enjoy the franchise as much as I should. If football's franchise mode was like this I'd be having a blast.


Could you imagine if you could select how often your QB looks to scramble, how often you target a certain receiver. Select how much your defense blitzes, pregame select who your best CB covers... There is a ton of match-up and play selection that could be put into the game to allow you to actually have control over your franchise. Right now you just select players and hope they play good together. Oh and you can select how often you pass and run, that's pretty much it. It sucks. I just wish another game would compete with Madden to get us a good franchise mode!!!!

I'm pretty sure you can do that. You used to be able to, and you almost HAD to do it against other human players when I was in drafted leagues (against the CPU, you don't as it's easy to win no matter so I haven't looked for 2 years).

I *think* you still can. The problem is that the pre-snap routine moves so quickly that it is almost impossible to assign the CBs to cover certain receivers in that amount of time.

I don't know, maybe it is me and I'm getting older, but I swear, in earlier iterations of Madden on the PC (like Madden 05), I had time to flip to individual players and give them assignments. Now, I just can't do it unless, of course, I am on offense.

1st you are entirely right about the CPU snapping the ball WAY too quickly. You can not adjust your defense at all.

But, I'm pretty sure, when you pause the game, you can go into coach's options or whatever, and adjust the matchups PERMENANTLY for that game. So if you want a specific CB to always cover their #1, you can assign that perm matchup.

That's how it used to be. When I was in my leagues, it was the 1st thing each player did once the game was connected. Quick pause, hammer through the matchups, unpause, then the other player did the same.

This game kicks ass. Best buy has pc version for $30, 50% cheaper than consoles. But, online sux, gfx online are dumbed down to ps2 looking gfx. Offline gfx look way better than console. Don't forget to enhance aa/af w/ nvidia contrl panel ot CCC.

I've been loving this game, it's probably the best sports game I've ever played, and I don't even follow the NBA anymore.

Still get frustrated sometimes with players not running plays with a sense of urgency, and my C/PF running in circles trying to post up. Some wtf moments with animations too. But otherwise, very polished and really run to play. Movement and shooting feel so much better than 2k10. They just went nuts this year with all the presentation elements.

Sucks though with Elite being cancelled and all those layoffs at EA Canada. I actually enjoyed Live 10 despite some of its warts, and thought they'd build on that instead of going in a totally different direction. Though the Elite demo lacked a ton of polish, I actually liked the controls and liked the idea behind getting rid of the 2-player animations.
