NBA: Kenyon Martin (K-mart) to the Denver Nuggets via sign/trade

man, without K-Mart the Nets are going to quickly slip down the Eastern Conference ladder. hopefully, for the Nets, they can do a sign and trade to get something back.

The Nuggets, according to sources, have agreed to send at least three future first-round picks to the Nets, who would sign Martin to a seven-year deal worth just over $90 million and then ship him to Denver.

looks like the Nets are going to be in the lottery...

Guys, the Nets can match any offer sheet Martin signs. He's not going anywhere--he's a restricted free agent. Have the Nets announced that they'll let him go? Unless they have, they're not going to.

the nets basically have the choice of signing KMart this year or RJ next year. most people think the Nets are gonna opt for RJ.

if it were me, i'd sign KMart and trade RJ.

the new owner is precisely who probably won't spend money. their is nothing in it for him to spend money on the Nets while they are still in NJ and until his deal has been approved.

You're kidding, right? Franchise doesn't make his teammates that good, Cuttino is an undersized SG with subpar defensive abilities who doesn't rack up many assists, and Cato isn't that good. The Pacers or the Pistons will probably win the East next year (as expected).

Crazy, do you ever post on the Nugs proboard forum? I was a little disappointed that we traded Jameer also, but I think it's because we're pretty much locked in with Andre and Boykins for the next few years.

I think Melo would have a problem with this, but who knows.

SG/SF are practically interchangeable, with SG being slightly quicker.

KMart can guard any SF/PF and most SG's in the game. at SG Melo will probably have the tougher defensive assignment but unless it's an Iverson/Kobe level SG Kmart can probably do D on the SG saving Melo some where and tear.

btw, even in the west, Outside of Duncan or KG, which PF would you say is clearly better than KMart?? Chris Webber?? NOT, i'd take KMart over webber any day of the week. Malone, NOT, Dirk? mb on O but definitely not on D or the Boards and in the open court it would be close with KMart having the athletic edge over Dirk.

even in the PF heavy West, KMart is still a top 5 PF.

at SF he would be #2 at that position next to KG (if he is still considered a SF).

KMarts a decent rebounder, definitely not a rebounding machine, not a rodman or wallace type at all.

he is a GREAT defender tho.

also, The nuggets apparently haven't offered KMart anything yet, they are looking to do a Sign and trade deal with NJ. they are supposedly holding the offer sheet as a bargaining tool, but since the Hawks have already made an offer, exactly how much bargaining power does this give the knicks? if the Nets don't make a deal with the Nuggets, they either sign and keep KMart or lose him to the Hawks, the Nuggets also offering Kmart something does nothing to change NJ's position.

Martin is a great defender and Melo is a horrid defender. Melo couldn't even contain Tayshaun Prince, who isn't an offensive monster. once i saw Melo's "defense", i felt better about the Pistons passing on him.

Kiki is a genius. With this type of sign and trade it still leaves enough room to sign a decent SG at the MLE.
