Lots of bad things have been done previously, does that mean we just shrug and move on when they happen?
I mean, if an elected official had an official stance regarding their policies which 180'd once they got in office, yeah. That sounds like fraud to me.Just because you don't like it or agree with it doesn't make it a Bad Thing.
If it were a Republican changing to Democrat it would be a good thing right?

Makes it bad for the people who voted for her when she promised to push Democratic priorities. Those people should be pissed.Just because you don't like it or agree with it doesn't make it a Bad Thing.

Those are talking points not examples. Who bullied her and over what issue? If what she says is true should be an easy answer. My guess she is lying, and the talking points are justifications for betraying her constituents. As I read it the GOP already held a majority. This one vote just made it a Super-Majority.
This was stated as her reason(s):
'Still the same person': Tricia Cotham avoids policy specifics in announcing flip from Dems to GOP
"I am still the same person, and I am going to do what I believe is right and follow my conscience," Cotham said while announcing that she had switched political parties.abc11.com
"The party wants to villainize anyone who has free thought, free judgement, has solutions and wants to get to work to better our state. Not just sit in a meeting and have a workshop after a workshop, but really work with individuals to get things done. Because that is what real public servants do. If you don't do exactly what the Democrats want you to do they will try to bully you. They will try to cast you aside," she said.
For Democrats probably yes but what about the people in her district? If it were a Republican changing to Democrat it would be a good thing right?
Did you complain when Arlen Specter changed parties to give Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate? How many of those changed the balance of power? Apples and oranges
I'll believe it when I see it.She said she is going to continue with the policies she has already outlined prior.
A little different Kemosabe, Spector said he will run for re-election as a Democrat letting the people decide if that was acceptable. In NC people didn't have a say.Did you complain when Arlen Specter changed parties to give Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate?
No, I think if someone is at the point where they're changing parties, they should resign and run again, as it's likely something has shifted for them, and maybe the people who voted them in should be allowed to have a voice in whether they continue to support that person.Just because you don't like it or agree with it doesn't make it a Bad Thing.
If it were a Republican changing to Democrat it would be a good thing right?
Yeah fucking right. The Republican party has shown to be such a bastion for freethinkers, and never bullies those who disagree with them."The party wants to villainize anyone who has free thought, free judgement, has solutions and wants to get to work to better our state. Not just sit in a meeting and have a workshop after a workshop, but really work with individuals to get things done. Because that is what real public servants do. Of course not. What is wrong is taking the power with her and away from those people she is supposed to represent. Suppose she got +18 cause abortion was on the ballot… Flippidiflop turnurn it around and voila fuck your rights bitches.Elected officials can caucus with whoever they want - there isn't some legal requirement to always be a member of the same party.
I have no idea what happened here and maybe there's something shady going on but there's nothing inherently wrong with people switching parties.
It's exactly the same thing. PA voters elected him as a Republican and then he switched parties. In PA just like in this situation the voters will have a say next time she's up for re-election, if she chooses to run.A little different Kemosabe, Spector said he will run for re-election as a Democrat letting the people decide if that was acceptable. Voters sometimes make bad choices! It doesn't mean the election no longer counts.Of course not. What is wrong is taking the power with her and away from those people she is supposed to represent. His party switch was contingent on winning reelection. People got to decide if they wanted Democrat Arlen Spector. That's not what happened in NC.It's exactly the same thing. That's not accurate. Specter won office as a Republican in 2004 and then switched parties in 2009. He then proceeded to run as a Democrat (and lose the primary) but he won as an R and then switched to D mid-term.His party switch was contingent on winning reelection. Got a link? I live in PA and don't recall those detailsThat's not accurate. Specter won office as a Republican in 2004 and then switched parties in 2009. He then proceeded to run as a Democrat (and lose the primary) but he won as an R and then switched to D mid-term.
I feel their should still be something that forces them to resign or re-run on a new platform though. Otherwise voters that voted for her get screwed, and whats to stop this happening more frequently in the future. We elect a person, not a party.
Sure.Got a link? I live in PA and don't recall those details
Well I guess that's the idea behind recall elections, although I categorically oppose recalls.I feel their should still be something that forces them to resign or re-run on a new platform though. I see what you are saying. However they only had 58 Dems max. It required 2 independents to vote with them and that wasn't a lock. NC has supermajority of Republicans. Let's see if she changes her agenda. Can you see her voting for abortion rights as a Republican?
