Picked up NCAA 2005 for xbox last night, was wondering if anybody else has played it.
I was hoping the passing game would be improved from last year, but it seems the same.
The problem i have is that way to many times a reciever will be open, "wave" to have you pass to him, you throw it to him, and he sticks his hands out and it bounces off his fingers and/or palms. I understand everybody drops passes, but this happens fairly often. Throwing hard or soft doesn't seem to help your odds with this problem. Yet when i make a bad choice, and throw into double or triple coverage, theres a good chance he will jump, catch it, get hit hard as he catches it, and hang on.
The running game i think is better, but it's different. It is a little slower then last year, but every player on the field is equally slower. This makes it easier to see where the blocks are being thrown and hit the hole. You are also less likely to get "stuck" to an offensive lineman. A weird feel to it b/c of the speed, if you've played a lot of 2004.
The computer controlled players are smarter on both sides of the ball. An improvement i noticed right away was running with a lead blocker. In 2004, if you had the FB as a lead blocker, sometimes he would run right by a blitzing LB, as if he was more interested in running the route drawn up in the play then blocking. This year, the FB is much better at throwing a good block. Also the DB's play a little tighter, a good improvement.
I like the new features, home field advantage is cool, now the crowd reacts more naturally. I like the players cofidence rating, their overall rating changes based on their performance in the game. Overall there are noticable improvements, I just wish the passing game was more realistic.
