Tennessee Vols are a huge question mark this year. Might be great (unlikely) or might suck like a Hoover (more likely).

Kirckland is out, their best defensive player. After missing much of last season too. They continue to get hit with injuries. Guess we'll see Monday. Vols are my team, but they've been disappointing last few years.

Decent opening weekend, some teams opened up with real games, other played fluffers to make themselves feel good.

FL not having 10 players, two of which were the best in their position really hurt. As usual, their defense and special teams did well. Offense sucked ass.

Bama beating FSU was a good game. Bama looked like Bama, despite not very good passing. But its their 3rd offense coordinator in 3 games so maybe expected. FSU's defense is very good too. REALLY hated to see FSU's Francois get hurt towards the end. He took a beating all year last year, and this year already. Didn't look like a hard tackle, just an awkward one. Really hope he is going to be ok.

Not really any huge upsets, perhaps Texas. They were overrated already anyways.

215 - 1 rushing yards at this moment.

Yeah, I expect BYU would play a lot better than that (479 -97 final total yards). I still do not buy into the new OC yet. I will wait until after Bama game. Let see if his system will work against the best of CFB.

Edit: Just read the stats of the game, LSU was very messy/clumsy (86 yards of penalties) and choked a few times at the red zone (FGs and not TDs). Not going to win against elite teams such as Bama with that much penalties and chokes.

My friends in Austin are sad now. They put too much faith in the new HC. Where the heck was the defense? 51 points from the Terps? Seriously, it was not the high flying high scoring Texas Tech offense we were talking about.

And Texas, lolololololol.

I hate to jump on a state when they're down, but geesh. Lost to Maryland at home? Have they fired the new coach yet?

Biggest point spread upset ever in college football happened this weekend and it wasn't the Longhorns. Howard was a 45pt underdog at UNLV and won 43-40. Even worse was that was not a conference or regional rivalry game that UNLV HAD to play. That was a sacrificial lamb game where the big school (UNLV) pays a patsy (Howard) a lot of money ($600,000 in this case) to come in and get stomped so the home team can rack up easy non-conference wins in a quest to get bowl eligible. Whoops! Spending over half a million to get beat in your home opener is a bigger lolololololol than Texas. And for anyone (was there anyone?) brave enough to take Howard to win straight up without the spread a $100 bet would have paid $55,000.

Fun Fact: The quarterback for Howard was Caylin Newton, Cam Newton's little brother.

FSU done for the year with a knee ligament.

That sucks. Other than the special teams buffoonery they were Bama's equal last night. Total yards about the same, more first downs. Just kept shooting themselves in the foot. Wouldn't mind seeing a rematch in the postseason but that doesn't look likely at all now.

TAM vs. UCLA.

TAM defense hold UCLA to a FG and created two consecutive turnovers while the offense choked (1st and ten at the 6 yards line but settled for a FG). What bizarro universe is this? <shock>

Ugh, just checked the UCLA score. That was one of 2 games I struggled to make my pick and ended up going with UCLA, not looking good.

UCLA scored 7 TDs straight to take the lead after falling behind by 34 points in 3rd quarter.

TAM turned over on down. Game over.

2nd largest come back in CFB history (35 points was the largest).

And I thought TAM defense was better this year.

My Vols with a huge comeback win. Couldn't stop their rushing, until the last play. Lots of great plays on each side. Now for only a 5 day break before another game, after a few OT's. Almost 4 days since it's midnight, going to be tired. Gotta get up in a little over 4 hours for work, weeee.

Solid first week of football. Fell terrible for Francois, just sickening. Clemson gets lucky with that break. But I'm sure they'll get game winning bullshit calls again no matter what.

The Vols woke up the 2nd half. I'm not sure what we can take away from that game last night, because the spread option is incredibly hard to defend, and GT just kept running it repeatedly. 1st half Vols looked awful. 2nd half Vols looked not too bad. If nothing else, they deserve some credit for not giving up when the game looked very lost.

Checked the pics this morning and thought Tennessee managed to lose until I pulled up the actual score. Not good.

Watching Georgia Tech carve up Tennessee with the option was a thing of beauty. I only started watching CFB seriously the last few years, so I wasn't that familiar with it, but it was amazing to see it in action. It's too bad their special teams sucked so bad.

On a side note, watching Tennessee play football leaves me confused and angry. They play like ass, then somehow pull off an amazing win time after time. I don't know how their fans can stand it.

And why the hell where they running around holding up a garbage can all game long?

That's not the problem. What leaves Tennessee fans confused and angry is just as soon at they start to believe the team plays like ass and loses to terrible teams. There is no patsy so weak that Tennessee can't lose a late-season must-win game to them.

They certainly played better in the 2nd half. First start for the QB, timing was off with receivers. Had so many throws that were either too much in front, behind, high, or just dropped. Lots of close almost catches.

But I agree, easy to give up. That's about all we know, is that they are playing like that year. Close games already. Their best receiver is out too, along with their best defensive player. Not good at all, injuries killed them last year.

Bama losing to OLB for the year will hurt them too, and their depth in games where they're on the field. Georgia losing their starting QB for the year too, like FSU. Among other teams suffering terrible loses. Already injuries have put a dampen on the season.

Its a throw back style of play, lots of HS's still use it. Navy and Air Force have used it for a long time too, still do. Catch one of their games if you want to see it some more. They rarely throw the ball, when they do its often for a good chunk. Its frustrating for teams because its hard to see the ball. Misdirection is key too. The other teams defense gets tired from being on the field for so long. This type of game play doesn't work in the long run though, if you get down, you can't just suddenly become a throwing team and score fast and many times. No real power house team uses it full time anymore. Some implement it from time to time, often times using a running back as the QB in a "wildcat" formation.

Tennessee didn't lead at any point in the game until the 2nd OT. I can't argue that it would be frustrating losing like that. They wouldn't have if not for that fumble on the 7 late in the 4th. But they did. And UT scored, then blocked the FG.

Some decent games coming up this week. I don't know who I want to lose the most, Oklahoma or Ohio St. If they could both lose that'd be great.

Thanks for the info. Air Force is coming to Ann Arbor next week, so we will see. I don't think they can execute as well as Georgia Tech did though (least I hope not).

This is not really true. GT is near the top in the country in explosive plays. The TOP edge is not from slowly moving down the field but rather from huddling between plays and not throwing incompletions which stop the clock. GT comes from behind plenty, and leads many drives successfully in the 2 minute drill. You saw it at the end rather easily moving down the field but botching the FG to win. The truth is, it's hard to come back down multiple scores no matter who you are. But if GT is steadily moving the ball, they can salt away some comebacks with long drives. Would have been like that without the JJ Green fumble. No matter how much Tennessee did on O, they wouldn't have had a chance to come back.

Its very true. Name me a team that won a NC with that style of offense. I'll wait.

In the meantime, Clemson continuing getting bullshit calls like last year. Auburn 3rd and 7, gets a intentional grounding call.

#1. You cannot give that when the QB is out of the pocket.
#2. The QB handed the ball off, got it back, at that point. THERE CAN BE NO INTENTIONAL GROUNDING.

Yet refs continue the trend of last year. Bailing out Clemson.

Damn Baker Mayfield! It's one thing to totally dominate OSU at the shoe (in a night game no less) but to plant OU flags at mid-field? Hope that works out for him.

As a Michigan fan, watching us try to pull stunts like that during the Dave Brandon era never ended well...
