And you don't think that one optical drive in the household might belong in the HTPC more than any other? I don't know about you, but when my guests bring a Redbox movie over to watch together they aren't going to wait for some other computer to rip, encode, and transfer the movie. Half the point of an HTPC is to do the duty of many other devices so having an inferior stand-alone BD player is no good for me.For that you only need one optical drive in the household. Also, if new disks are not being ripped constantly, it might be fine to just have an external drive you plug in when you need to rip a disk. Ripping the existing collection is a one-time thing so for that it hardly matters whether the drive is internal.
I know I barely use ODDs anymore.
