My Epox 4G4A is picky as hell with more than one stick of memory installed, so on a whim I went over to NewEgg and did a search for SiS655 boards. They have a Gigabyte GA-8SQ800 dual-channel SiS655 board for $112:Q Seems like it would be good to tide me over until Springdale/Prescott prices come down a bit after they are released. It even comes with a Firewire daughter card. It sure is a hell of a lot cheaper than the Granite Bay boards

What I'm waiting for are the SiS 658 based boards (RDRAM). But this board looks pretty good. $112 for performance that equals or exceeds GB boards while costing $100 less is very tempting. I might buy this board really soon.

I'd wait for Cebit next month; there'll likely be some new "latest and greatest" boards announced then.

Yeah, for super duper high prices too

I don't need all that frilly onboard crap. I have a NIC and sound card. And I don't need RAID or Serial-ATA so all of that crap is useless. This board is perfect

It has:

LAN
RAID
Serial-ATA RAID
That little 6-phase power card
Another Serial-ATA daughter card
Serial ATA cables
Heatsink on the southbridge

Has anyone seen any other reviews on it that show it gets better ocing then 164fsb??? That is mostly my main concern. I get 171fsb now and even if I go to c1 2.4b I likely will want better then 164fsb. I would need to get a 2.53 or 2.66 c1 to be satisfied with those low fsb's...

Edit: I thought the sinxp or something or other was the p4 dual channel solution...you know the one on anandtechs front page reviewed like on the 1th of this month...

I thought about getting the $112 Giga board from newegg. I'm holding out for B0 (either the Asus P4SDX or the Ultra2 board from Gigabyte) stepping to give myself a few more upgrade options in the future (HT cpu).

I think thats the way to go, I rather wait for a board that supports HT too. You'll regret it later. By the way, anyone know when Canterwood is coming out? Thats my next motherboard upgrade.

You can support HT on A0 boards with a BIOS update. It's available right on Gigabyte's website:

How do you know for sure that these boards are rev A0 SIS 655? Have you gotten your board from Newegg yet? I'll be getting mine sometime mid-week. Gigabyte said in Anand's review that most of the SIS 655 boards will be rev B0 and a small percentage will be A0. We've been talking about this topic here.

That is an excellent price for that board. Please keep us updated on the performance, features, and stability.

"Without wasting any time I left all the voltage and memory settings as they were and increased the FSB to 160MHz on the overclocking processor (the 1.8A). This took the processor to a healthy 2.88GHz and saw SiSoft2002 memory transfer rates hit 3.9GB/s.I then increased the voltage and upped the FSB to 166MHz. The system then posted and benchmarking completed successfully. I was able to run at 167MHz however, I did experience the odd crash that could perhaps be avoided with a better cooling solution."

No kidding! That's stupid!

Look in the manual and see if one was supposed to be included... Maybe it was just a fluke that you didn't get one?
