Waco biker gang shooting fails to deter push to expand 'open carry' gun laws

One bill, HB910, passed the Texas house and was debated on Monday in a state senate committee. It would allow people to carry handguns and pistols in the open and would bar police from asking whether the person carrying the gun is licensed.

Texans can already carry so-called “long guns”, such as rifles, in public. Another bill, SB11, would allow “concealed carry” of weapons on college campuses.

Hours after the shootout, gun lobbyists called the legislation “great bills by great bill authors”.

Frankly, I don't know how the police do it.
It is truly amazing how the cops can keep any peace at all, considering.
Guns are so out of control now that when shit happens, not only do the cops come to the rescue, but also the swat team must be called in as well, and possibly the national guard.
This isn't your daddy's wild wild west anymore. This is Vietnam, or Iraq, or ISIS on two wheels.

This trend of having the local police armed like some military assault force did not sit well with many Americans, but realistically that just might be the only answer here.
If these bikers come to your home town, to your local Walmart or Chipotle across from your local elementary school, who do you want to show up in response?

I agree, it does seem like a denigrating post, and one that tries to lump white people together unfairly! I imagine you have also called out similar posts made about black people as we can all agree such stereotypes are wrong.

I'm worried that some people might think that you haven't made such posts in the past and would therefore be engaging to similar hypocrisy as to what you're trying to call out here. I'm sure that's not the case but to save us all some time can you link to those posts?

Well, I'll disagree. That was actually pure sarcasm, and in no way did I think that was racist. What you had there was a person calling a spade a spade, and pretty damn accurate. This is a subset of the white community and will acknowledge 90% of these idiots are up to no good. Now take note, acknowledgment of a shit group which is a SUBSET of a larger group. You can call it what you will, but if you are stupid enough to hang around when 4 biker gangs roll up, and think it is somehow "racist" to prejudge them, I'm not going to lose any sleep if something happens to you. It's called survival of the fittest for a reason. Cops are a different story. They have to deal with that shit when they get a call.

Now also notice two things in my post, I've identified a problematic group and have not defended their moronic and illegal behavior. I've also not lumped them in as part of the overall white community. Part of not lumping them in with a larger group, is not defending their actions. No excuses and no BS race card. See how that's done? Now take note and apply it to "other" situations.

Not so sure. The salon article is trying to make an issue about the use of the word "riot" but it doesn't really seem to fit the situation. The quoted term "something akin to a war zone" is hardly soft language.

I'm sure my definition of white trash is very close to yours however, I have a hard time calling people with a darker completion* (Hispanics) white. Though your picture shows there are some Bandido that may fit your description of being Nazis from my experience in the Houston area the Bandidos have a larger Hispanic membership and have tats of the Virgin Mary and/or Jesus wearing a crown of thorns.

Just saw an interview with the Waco Cop. He said they have recovered around 1,000 weapons from the crime scene. He did say many were pocket knives but they went all the way up to an AK47.
He said weapons were stashed everywhere in the restaurant, between seats, in toilets, in pots, under sink, essentially everywhere.

Plus a former (retired?) detective was arrested.

Of course in Ca we have the same situation in terms of two major biker gangs in conflict with each other, i.e. The Hells Angels and Mongols who had a similar style of violent interaction in Laughlin, Nevada a few years ago.

Maybe he is a racist but I highly doubt it considering how the Bandidos have a open door policy with all races being allowed into their biker gang. Also take into consideration that some people (I'm thinking of Sid Vicious from the band "The Sex Pistols") wear a Nazi swastika t-shirt just to get a rise out of people and be edgy rather than any allegiance to any actual racial or political beliefs.

So the cops admit to shooting and killing 4 and cautioning they dont know for sure how many. Be interesting to see how many of the dead and maimed were actually from the police and not the bikers. I get the feeling this story is only beginning.

Caring is not relevant. You have to enforce the law according to the rules. You arent supposed to endanger civilians but you have to make life and death decisions in a split second also.
If they make a bad decision its probably not because they cared too much or too little, its because they are either incompetent or inexperienced.

Investigators recovered items ranging from pocket knives to an AK-47 rifle, Waco police spokesman Sergeant Patrick Swanton told the Guardian. Gang members rushed to get rid of their weapons, he said, as gunfire erupted and police moved in to the Twin Peaks restaurant in the south of the city last Sunday.

They were found “stuffed in toilets and hidden under seats”, he said. One firearm was discovered in a bag of tortilla chips, while a knife was located in a bag of flour. Brass knuckles, bats and chains were also unearthed.
