That's why it's called the shuffle. You either play in order or let it shuffle and play random.

The shuffle really isn't designed to hold your entire CD collection, like the other iPods. The idea is to only put on your absolute favorite songs and let it shuffle away. Imagine it as your own personal radio station.

So save yourself $100 and grab a little fm radio smaller than this thing for around $5.....

But is that radio going to play nothing but my favorite songs without commericals? No.

A small 2-line LCD might be nice, granted, but at the same time with such a display it would be almost impossible to design a good UI for browsing your library. Unless you get a full iPod you are left with a chioce between a crappy display and none at all. I can see where Apple is coming from with the Shuffle.

Granted, when you consider that the Dell Pocket DJ can routinely be had for around $179 or so, paying $150 for the 1GB Shuffle seems a bit steep.

If you shop around and use some coupons and/or rebates, you can buy a generic 256 MB flash based MP3 player for about $19 - $29....

You guys need to remember, you can also just create playlists and listen to you music that way. Its no different then playing a mixed tape, except you have the option to switch it up randomly if you choose.

I don't understand why you would want something smaller than a Muvo or one of the flash Rio players. Rio had something about the size of the iPod Shuffle that had a display and went on a lanyard, too, but I think they stopped selling it about a month ago. Had some polymer battery thingy.

After a point, smaller is not more convenient. If they want something better than a Muvo, they need to get rid of the cord.

Oakley has the ridiculously expensive sunglasses with a built-in MP3 player, and someone else had headphones with a built-in MP3 player, but both of them have a pretty sad amount of memory.

I'd like to see a watch MP3 player that uses bluetooth headphones. I guess then you have the issue of the battery life of your watch and your headphones, but it'd be nice to have the controls/display on your wrist. Regardless, it would be nice to have your cell phone, MP3 player and headphones working together wirelessly.

Creative Muvo TX 512 is > This

and is cheaper, and can be used as a flash drive, and can take batteries so you dont need ot charge it on a USB drive, and has an LCD, and has an equalizer.

Seriously... ppl are going to buy this?

My AP Biology teacher has the 512MB version of this (ordered it the day it came out)

It's literally only the length of my middle finger. . . and there's no cables, you just plug it in straight. . .

works great at the gym, its kinda annoying to be running on a treadmill trying to navigate an ipod with a display

The Shuffle has the best launch of any iPod to date, so people are buying it. I personally would have preferred at least a 3 digit display, but apparently most people don't care about the display, or equalizer. It can also be used as a flash drive, so size and function seem to be more important.

Personally, I think the shuffle would be perfect if it had a small display and FM tuner, but then again I don't really use MP3 players.

Well, it's not ppl don't care LCD, it's Apple telling them LCD is not necessary, so ppl are satisfied and think that's cool. One day Apple will tell them there are two suns on the sky and they will believe.

Thats why I use a cheap no frills $50 Creative MuVo from Walmart.

Ipod shuffle sux compared to other cheaper flash memory based players, but the original Ipod owns compared to ANY other HD based player.

What do you need a display for? I don't care what the name of the song I'm listening to is. I only use my fiance's iPod mini on shuffle, so this would work fine for me. FM radio (AKA ClearChannel) sucks nowdays, so I would rather save the money and leave that feature off. The Shuffle CAN be used as a USB flash drive, which actually is usefull to me. And most importantly it uses iTunes. After using iTunes I will never buy an mp3 player that doesnt use it to transfer music. You want to use musicmatch or windows explorer? ::shudders::

Just to know what track you're on. And there are other things to listen to besides ClearChannel stations. Like NPR.
