NEC 19" FP912SB monitor rated #1 by PCWorld magazine at Amazon.com is priced at $283.84 with free shipping and handling. A savings of $41.57 as of 11/16/03. Cheapest price I have found and w/ the free S&H, I ordered one. They are not in stock so delivery will be somtime in December of 2003. If you need or want to upgrade to a new #1 rated 19" monitor for under $300.00, now is the time!!!!!!!!

Dell is currently running a 10% discount on many of their monitors. Although they are not listing the FP912SB any longer (extremely short supply anywhere you go), they do have the DP930SB at a discounted price of $266.36 with free shipping. All of the research I've done recently indicates that this is the EXACT same monitor as the FP912SB except that its branded Mitsubishi instead of NEC. Apparently, this was a marketing ploy to offer the same monitor to the MAC crowd (who tend to do a lot of graphic work) and are typically willing to pay a higher price.

Anyway, Dell lists the time to ship at 5-7 days, but my order was sent out within 48 hours and is scheduled to arrive next week.

Awesome, been looking for deals on the NEC/Mitsubishi with diamondtron tube for awhile. Used both the Samsung 191T and Dell 1800 and hated both
I'll consider getting this, been using the Dell Trinitron 19 inch while waiting for deals on a better CRT.

Hmmm...the opinions expressed here are rather interesting.

It seems that some would have you believe that all 19-inch CRT's are created alike and that the only consideration should be price. I would argue that that belief is a fallacy. Certainly, I can run down to Staples on any given weekend and pick up their deal of the day "Envision-esque" monitor for $90 and change after rebate, but do you honestly believe that the image quality would even begin to approach a Mitsubishi monitor with a Diamondtron tube?

Where did you get that deal? I'm looking to get a 19" one of these days, but not willing to spend too much. (LukFilm, the one where you said you got paid 50 to buy the 19")

You're not going to get "paid" $50 to buy an aperture grille-based monitor ... maybe for a shadow mask CRT, but not an aperture grille CRT, esp. not these days. FWIW, Sony quit making anything under a 21" aperture grille CRT in late March.

I run both a 912SB and 1800FP in dual-mon setup and there is no comparison for graphics or gaming: the 912SB wins in every department (except text) hands down!

Yes, so cold. A top of the line 18" viewable CRT for $266 shipped (the one from dell) or a crappy 18" LCD for at least $100 more if you're lucky. A bright, non-ghosting, high contrast CRT that will look beautiful at 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, and 1600x1200, or a dull, ghosting, low contrast, crappy response LCD that will look blurry at anything besides its native resolution or will only do "virtual" resolutions higher than native.

Oh nooooo, 50 pounds instead of 15 pounds and a few inches less space on my desk...my geek body type can't handle it

Let's also not forget it does 1600x1200 at 85hz. Another nice bonus of the monitor. Plus Superbright mode is great for gaming

Eh - I personally would say that it's no longer worth it to purchase CRTs new at this price point. If you're aiming for CRTs, the used market for these things is ridiculous now since everyone is flocking towards the newer LCDs. I've had my Sony 21" FD Trinitron screen for ... I would say a little over two years and back then I paid $225 each (new) for the 3 I got. Earlier this year, I picked up another 21" Sun Monitor (business storage) that had the same FD Trinitron tube for $175. I really can't over emphasize that it would pay off to do some hunting in the used market. Heck , you'll probably end up w/ new or relatively new monitors!

fwiw I got a REALLY hot deal on my Diamondtron tubed 19" a couple of years ago and it ran around $250...and that was a REALLY hot deal. So you have to keep in mind that there IS a value to these higher end monitors because at that time I could have gotten a flat cheap monitor for like $150.

If you care it was a 900NF samsung. And now 3 years later I hate it because the stupid thing blew on me like 3 times and after I got it fixed the stupid thing screeches and every time the morons fix it it breaks again like 2 days later. And the stupid anti-glare coating is coming off. Of course these things are really problems with Samsung's quality control and not the actual tube, which was great, and is now so-so....the color seems to have gotten messed up in parts of the CRT...but again this MIGHT be samsung's problems.

I'm not dissing on Samsung...this monitor was made 3 years ago and they've made improvements since then so my judgement on this monitor's cruddy reliability shouldn't reflect on modern samsung electronics although it did disappoint me =(

I would have preferred if they let me SEND IN the monitor instead of making me bring it to some stupid authorized repair place that kept messing my monitor up.
