I was going to buy the 3520 but saw it was priced with no software. I didn't see that it could be ordered with software, so I bought the liteon black bezel retail burner (1633s). Did I screw up?
Have had good luck with their CD burner.

Yep. The liteon's aren't very well respected in DVD burning circles. Forget what you knew in the past about liteon.

Again, 3520A will auto change booktype to DVD-ROM for DVD+R media. Check out the modified firmware for it, makes better burn quality than official NEC f/w. I need to pick up another one when it goes on sale again next week, probably below $70 shipped. Also have to buy a Toshiba 1912 to replace my current DVD-ROM. I don't like Lite-On opticals anymore. Failure rate's too high all of a sudden.

Neweggs price on the 3520A w/ Software (Black) for 69.99 shipped. Not on sale but the software is only 1 buck more than without.

damn, updating the prices on this thread have shown me just how often newegg's prices change. It's nuts, it feels like at least once per day. And one-day-sales never seem to mean anything significant; it's not usually more than the usual day to day price fluctuation at newegg.

NEC gives you crappy software. Lite-On gives you Nero OEM suite. Buy both!

I am looking to replace my 1100A with a +/- DL drive. Does this drive write to DL-R ? or can it be upgradeable to ? like the new Pionner A09. It is supposed to write both DL+R and DL-R.
Pioneer A09 info

At least today the shipping costs for the OEM W/O software and the OEM W/ Software are each $4.
Yesterday the Software option cost $1 more for shipping! The CD sleeve must have been heavy. I assume they are shipping w/o sleeve to save us the dollar on shipping.... Dont get me started on Black vs Beige shipping costs:laugh:

I believe it does not write DL-R out of the box, but it has hardware capability to do so. So to answer, no at the moment, but yes in the future.

Not that it really matters. Try finding DL-R media...

I know I am probably opening a can of worms but, is there any reason to pay more for the Plextor 716A. Best Buy has the 716A on sale for 116.99 - 30 MIR = 86.99 and Newegg has the 716SA on sale today for 136.99.

I like plextors older cdrw drives but thier dvd burners are just average why spend more for the name when you could get a NEC drive that works better for less money , unless you just gotta have plextor showing on the front of your computer erick your choice!
