I have installed the latest firmware and did used Nero's DVD speed and got an average of 6x? Drive is in DMA mode. HELP! Thanks

Yeah i've burned a few things and it all burned slow... but the thing I realized is I'm using 8x media, but shouldn't I be able to write faster than that? Or is 8x media 8x media... thanks...

Takes my 3520A around 8 min. to complete the burning proccess of copying a DVD.

Only some burners will do this with some media. It's not like CD-Rs used to be, where you could burn at 52x on 40x media. One "x" in terms of DVDs is a much bigger difference than it was with CDs... it's not really very relative.

I had this issue with my Lite-On and updating the firmware and installing the nVidia IDE channel drivers (instead of the generic microsoft ones) made a huge difference.

Hmm. I just burned at like 2.4x with mine and 3.5gigs took 17 minutes. That's the max the DVD+Rs I had laying around would go, so...

Dude, considering burning a 650MB CD with a 2x burner took 30 minutes back in the day, I'm happy

8x media will result in 8x media burn, unless you're very lucky.

Some 8x media labeled as such are low in quality and will burn slower. You should buy higher quality media which isn't that much more expensive. I recommend Ridata aka Ritek.

Isn`t 8 speed the maxium? I thought the maxium speed could only be reached at the end (or was it the beginning?) of the disc. That would explain your average speed.
(That has to do with the amount of data that can be written at one rotation. The center of a disc having less space than the outside).

Or maybe I`m just confussed with something else.

I agree. My Pioneer 109 burns Ridata 8X discs at 12 X every time with no problems.
