That report seems sketchy to me. Not really an official announcement. The lasers in current DVD burners are only made strong enough to burn to a single layer.

I ordered this drive when it was $100. It was just the burner itself, no software or anything. You got lucky!

I tried to pm Newegg once on a purchase i made but they said "no". I did it by email. I do recall seeing a thread somewhere where someone did get one, but think they did it by phone, and i think their order hadn't shipped yet. So....i guess it's possible, but not likely. Robert

There are two versions on newegg, OEM and OEM bulk. The bulk does not have any software, the plain OEM does.
