Bummer. I'm running Nero 5.5.9.14. Is it confirmed that this burner won't work with 5.5.x Nero? [I have NOT ordered yet...]

I sent an inquiry to Nero about this burner. No response yet... However, I looked up the supported NEC burners, and the 2510A is NOT on the list, but the 2500A is. So, it should be a matter of time for them to put it in, unless they decide to put it in 6, as a few NEC drives don't have support in 5.5, which worries me a bit.

Well I got my burner yesterday and can confirm that nero 6.3.1.6 works fine with it.

BLEORG. This may mean that they will choose not to upgrade 5.5 with this burner... This sucks as I bought a legit full version 5.5 not so long ago, and I was just outside of the free upgrade period to 6, AARRGH. That Nero 6 sure isn't cheap. I know there are cheap OEM versions of Nero Express, but NE is junk. I may have to go back to (gasp) Roxio ECDC 5.

On the plus side, these drives have, BY FAR, the best (fast/quiet) loading mechanism I have ever seen!

Mine does too. However, in Nero under 'Recorder properties' is says: "Maximum speed: 2x". Does your's say that too? All I have currently is 2x media (sorry) so I can't confirm Nero will burn faster than 2x with this burner at the present time.

OK i gave up resisting and ordered one. Not quite the original idea I had of replacing all 3 optical drives in my system with these, but sometimes I get carried away .

I got mine from Newegg when they were $92.something. Just got mine in the mail a few days ago and I can say that when they say OEM, they really mean it. Mine was a bare drive wrapped in bubblewrap put into a FedEx box. Heh, oh well, its still a great little drive. I have not burnt anything DL with it yet but I iwll someday soon. Like others have said above, its very nice and quiet and so far has worked flawlessly in every other respect (no DL media at my house yet but will try that out soon).

Edit: I got the Newegg extended warentt with mine which pushed up the price to $100.something.

I think I noticed that too somewhere. I'll check again when I'm back from work. I think there was an option for maximum speed? Anyways, I don't have any media yet, but have some 4x Ridata coming. This drive is significantly quieter than my old 48X cd burner.

No offense, but why are you running such an OLD version of Nero 5.5.x ?

I'm currently showing version 5.5.10.56 on my machine, I think that's the latest one.

Try updating your Nero first, and if the drive *still* isn't recognized, post back, and/or contact Ahead about an update to 5.5 with support for your drive.

I see that the Beige colored ND-2510A BGE is cheaper by a buck ( at Newegg). Did not see any other differences though. I am seriously thinking of ordering the Beige one .

Beige ND-2510A

This is MOOT BERATING, as it does not work in the latest 5.5 version from their website.

OK, I checked things out a bit more. Nero says the burner has a max burner speed of 2x when there's a 2x blank disc in the drive. So it's reading the max speed of the disc and limiting the burner accordingly. When I take the blank disc out, that info disappears. Wish I had a 4x disc to check it out, but I'ld bet it would say 4x max speed with a 4x blank disc inserted.

Are you talking about NE OEM or the Ultra edition, or both? Junk? Could you elaborate?

And if somebody could explain the difference between the Ultra Edition of Nero 6 and the OEM, I'd appreciate it.

I got my 4X Ridata media in today. Nero does say 4X as maximum burn rate when I have that media in.

$86.99.

Tempting, but I'm still going to wait for DL media to be <$5 before I jump.

Ok, fine, but how would you know if you don't even try to upgrade? That's all I was suggesting. Not to mention, they usually have a number of bugfixes in their updates, so it's a good idea anyways. There are "tweaks" that can be done too, to enable an unsupported drive, that is similar to a supported one.

LMAO @ "MOOT BERATING" from the boy that trusts everything he reads obviously...just download and install the upgrade...what do you have to loose?

seems like a good deal but without media that utilizes it whats the point?

I don't have any kind of DVD burner at present. I have CDRWs in my 2 machines. I burn CDRs and CDRWs OK with 5.5.9.14, and fact is I haven't been burning lately. Even if I did, unless I experienced problems I wouldn't look to see if Nero had a more recent version of 5.5 out there, if for no other reason than it's always a hassle to upgrade. The biggest hassle is restoring my CD artist/title/song database which I use for CD Text on my music CDRs. I know how, but it's always a tussle - Nero's a bit buggy in that area, IMO. At least it has been every time I reinstalled/upgraded 'til now.

That's the black faceplate model. The beige is still $86.99, FYI.

If this is a dumb question, please excuse me: Can I produce Divx DVDs with this, say with Nero Express 6, doing my editing with Nero Vision Express? TIA.
