NEC 90GX2 vs. ViewSonic VX924

Its for my room which its not too bright. I use my monitor mostly for work (3D Modeling, writting code, article, ppt presentations etc.) but also do alot of web surfing. I also watch movies and videos. I've seen Sonys' 19" 95b with glossy screen and was mesmorized! I've seen the 924 as well and really liked it. I light bright rich colors and want detailed images with good black levels. Price difference aside, which would work best for my needs and likes?

PS:I'm disabled so adjusting color/brightness through the front buttons is hard for me. Do these monitors come with software that allows adjustments through the PC?

I don't know what resolution you're coming from, but as an avid 3D modeler myself, I think 1280x1024 may be a hardship when you have multiple viewports open and also have to take into consideration the extra space needed for toolbars and the key track. It should also be noted that those two monitors are 6-bit.

Out of those two monitors, the 90GX2 will be better for what you're doing, however they're both really meant for gaming with their fast response times.

Dethfrumbelo,

Any recommendations? I currently use a Samsung Syncmaster 763 17" CRT at home and at work I have an HP 1740 17" LCD.

I agree, the 19" monitors you're looking at good for gaming. How about:

Samsung 204T Good monitor for your application, software adjustable using Samsung MagicBright/MagicTune software.

Newegg is a good source to see what people are buying:
20.1" Monitors

The 204T would be a good choice. 1600x1200 is probably your best bet, but there are also some nice 1680x1050 widescreens, like the VX2025, which looks good for the price ($320). The NEC 20WMGX2 is the best widescreen on the market, but runs $600-$700, so that's probably out.

I agree there. The monitors you're looking at are mainly for gaming, which means they, in a nutshell, sacrifice color for speed. For what you want, I recommend you look at Viewsonic's VP line such as the VP930B.. They are supposed to be excellent in the color repoduction department.

I guess my priorities are:
Quality color reproduction
Detail
blacklevel

Doesn't a good gaming monitor translate into a good video monitor?

Ok, So I've ruled out the VX924 & the 90GX2 and decided that moving up in resolution, hence size, would be best. I'm know looking to choose between the NEC 90GX2/20WMGX2 or the SAMSUNG 204B. I'll pay the difference for the NEC if its worth it and reviews seem to be great besides the "glare issue" but it can't be worst than the glare off my CRT (which doesn't bug me at all).
It seems the Samsung 204B gets great praise for its text, rich color images and video playback. I'm not a high-end gamer so fast is not necessarily an issue. Anyone familiar with this unit? Steelsix and others have mentioned the Samsung 204T. The 204B seems to have better specs and is nicer looking.
Like I said, I'm looking for vivid colors, good text, and great definition.

If color reproduction / color accuracy is your number 1 priority I would not look at a TN panel based monitor like the 204B that uses dithering. You are probably better off with a monitor that uses an IPS panel, which is the LCD most graphics pros and digital photo geeks would gravitate towards.

20WGX2 if you want wide screen, or perhaps the NEC LCD2070NX if you want 1600x1200 non-widescreen native resolution. Either way I would consider buying from a shop that allows returns.
