i have been thinking about picking one of these NEC DVD Burner 3520 up.
I currently have been using the NEC 2500A. i have been using it for around 1.5 years now, and it have treated me Extremely well.

I would like to pick up the PX 716A, but theres is NO WAY IN Hell that i can justify the price on the plextors.

~120$ for the plextor or ~50$ for the NEC.......hmmmmm
It looks like im going to be picking up anther NEC

I think you need to pay extra to get the 1 year warranty

The drive from Newegg is OEM. Newegg is responsible for the 1 year waranty (even though it states manufacturer). Bought the NEC 3500 in Dec. '04, died in May '05, manufacturer told me that Newegg covered all OEMs, RMA'd Newegg, Newegg replaced with NEC 3520 w/o any hassle.

Newegg is clearly the better choice in the customer service area. This is a no brainer to me.

I have the plextor 716A and this NEC. The NEC is better... it has no issues with any dvd blanks I've fed it.

A friend of mine bought the Sony 4x for $150 on sale at Christmas 2 years ago and we thought he got a great deal. Amazing how far they dropped. Just like video cards.

Maybe this is a newbie question.. but with an oem drive, if you do not have nero software etc, you must buy some kind of software to even use the drive, correct?

Yes, the oem drive come with pretty much nothing.
No software, or cables.

oem assumes you already have the software and accessories neccessary that are not included so the price are considerately less then retail. the saving are well worth it as the drive as all you need if you are not a noob
