For those hung up on gaming performance, I came from a 5ms Samsung 216BW to this thing and I don't really notice any problems. For what it's worth, I play CS:S competitively (mostly just competitive pubs nowadays) and I haven't noticed any real issues. A 10ms difference is not much at all; when you get to 50+ it becomes more of a problem.

I did an impulse buy (waiiting for the delivery) of the Sceptre 25" for $270 on sale at Costco, the same price basically as this, for gaming. Little bigger but not IPS. Hmm.

Do yourself a favor and refuse delivery.
There's no alternative to IPS.

Oh please. Do yourself a favor and quit being such a snob.

Although to that effect, i think the 27" is $270 @ costco now...

It was the 27" I got, my mistake (it got here Friday but I didn't answer the door fast and they'll bring it again Monday).

To be fair, his comment islargely why I posted, for feedback picking. Although I am looking for a bit more info to help evaluate the pick than 'ips is better'.

I might prefer a noticably more attractive image on the 23" IPS than the 27" (TN or TFT? I always forget which is which and which is better).

But I see differences in quality between (TFT/TN) as well, and not all IPS have looked great. I don't need a wide viewing angle really.

I mainly like bright, vibrant colors in games, and clear text without screendoor on the web, no ghosting.

A decade ago, I was pretty happy other than the price buying the best CRT I saw, NEC 21" XP than ran over $2000, the colors seemed to look better than other picks.

Today, my list of picks includes the two above (23" IPS in this thread and Sceptre 27"), the Dell U2410 for $500, and the LG W3000H for $1160.

None of the above is 120Hz which is tempting for Nvidia3D WoW (and some of the advertised 120Hz monitors seem to use some phony 120Hz that might not be compatible).

This isn't really a thread for a lengthy discussion of picks, but feedback on this monitor versus the Secptre 27", at least, is appreciated.

The Sceptre is a safe pick for a monitor that's nice and usable and might be a short term until I determine something else like one of the above, or might be longer term, depending.

I've been playing games on a 19" NEC Multisync for years, this was one of the first decent LCD monitors on the market. It's almost 7 years old and has a response time of 25ms. I don't know if it's an IPS panel, but the colors are incredibly even and barely shift at all compared to 4 modern laptop screens I've compared it to. The point is that TN or IPS, a response time this "bad" is hardly anything to be concerned about. Using this screen I still cannot tolerate vsync or wireless mice, so I am still sensitive to input lag.

Agree, have an ancient NEC LCD 1765 I bought in 2004 (IIRC) that plays games just fine. Loved everything about it except the glass cover over the screen which in certain situations would cause very nasty glare. I simply had to use it where there weren't lights behind me.

Darn it, somehow I missed the Sceptre is 16:9, not 16:10.

Now to decide if that means not to get it for gaming.
